Hi,

My father-in-law had a stroke only 3 days ago. He is trying to talk, slightly responsive and trying to move his right leg. This is what the doctors have told us after an MRI. swelling is there .. bleeding has stopped ... and there is blockage in the arteries. They say he has a blockage that is causing his right side paralysis. They have also mentioned they may need to operate. He is indian and is in a very good hospital in Mumbai, I can not be with him but my partner is.
Firstly what questions should we be asking the doctors. And by now what treatment should be happening?
Any advice or suggestions will be much appreciated, even advice on what my partner can do to help, eg talking to Dad and trying to stimulate him, although he is afraid this may raise his BP. They sent my partner out to get coconut milk and make vegetable soup in the first 24 hours, this I dont understand as at that stage he wasnt even responsive. They since moved him from that hospital and now have him at a very advanced and exspensive hospital, but how do we know that the care he is getting is correct, what should we be looking for?
Thanks... sorry this is so disjointed. Oh by-the-way, I am from New Zealand and hope to start my bachelor of nursing next year.
