I just found out I am hosting the dinner for 7 people. I figured we could help each other out with recipes for desserts, side dishes and the turkey itself (or any othe main dish that you like).

i just made KILLER fudge tonight
its pretty easy to make

1 pound milk chocolate
1 pound semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 1/2 tablespoons butter
2 cups marshmallow creme
2 cups chopped walnuts (optional)

1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
4 cups white sugar

DIRECTIONS
Lightly butter one 9x13 inch pan.
In a large bowl, combine the milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, butter, marshmallow cream and nuts.
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the evaporated milk and sugar. Stir constantly and bring to a boil for 4 minutes.
Pour hot sugar mixture over chocolate mixture and stir with large spoon until well blended (do this quickly before fudge begins to harden). Once this is well blended, pour fudge into a buttered 9x13 inch baking pan. Spread out and smooth into pan.
Set aside to cool and harden, about 6 hours. Cut into squares when ready to serve.

Ooo, I've been looking for some ideas myself.

I dunno how traditionally thanksgiving this is, but I'm making cheese garlic biscuits like the ones as Red Lobster to go with our Thanksgiving dinner. I LOVE them. I seriously eat one for breakfast the morning after if we have leftovers. They are soo easy.

You need:
* 2 cups Bisquick (I've made it without bisquik before and just looked up a bisquick alternative recipe)
* 2/3 cup milk
* 1/3 cup grated cheddar cheese
* 1/2 cup melted butter (using a cup of the garlic sauce that comes with pizza from papa johns works even better!)
* 1/4 tsp. garlic salt

Mix Bisquick, milk, and cheese until it forms a soft ball. Beatfor 30 seconds. Drop by balls onto an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes (sometimes it takes a minute or two longer if you make the biscuits big). Mix butter and garlic and brush on top (or just use the garlic dipping sauce from papa johns) and sprinkle a little cheese on top if you want while still on the pan and hot.

Candy Crunch Pudding Pie (really easy, beautiful, DELICIOUS desert: the best kind Very Happy)

you need:
* 2 cups milk
* 2 pkg (4 serving size each) JELLO chocolate instant pudding & pie filling
* 1 tub (8 ounces) cool whip, thawed and divided
* 2 milk chocolate english toffee candy bars (or really whatever candy bar you wish to use... Twix, butterfinger, snickers, reese's) chopped and divided
* 1 oreo pie crust (6 ounces)
* 1 square baker's semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted

Beat milk and dry pudding mixes with a whisk for 2 minutes or so. Gently stir half of the cool whip and all but 3 tablespoons of the candy bar. SPOON into crust (pouring is a little hard at this point). Top with remaining whipped topping and candy. Drizzle with chocolate. You can serve it immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

I saw this ad for Jennie O's Oven Ready turkey today and since I;ve never made a turkey before in my life, I'd probably get that. It actually looks really good! Apparently you can just take it from your freezer and put it in the oven and voila! Very Happy It comes in several flavors. I'd probably get homestyle or smoked.

Also, Kraft has all kinds of different boxes of stuffing mixes. I JUST descovered that today as well Very Happy

You should make some then! I swear those things are just as good, and they are the only real reason I ever crave Red Lobster anyway Very Happy My mom and my 8 year old little brother love the one's I made too, and he's the pickiest eater ever. I'm sure they'll be a hit at your dinner.

My main thing is we are kind of short on money right now. My Dad is putting a lot of pressure on me to hold it at my place but that also means I have to pay for things I really would not need otherwise. I am already frustrated with the money situation and now it is worse with having to do this.

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear how much pressure you are under! You should invite your family to "bring a dish" as well. That way they can all add something of their own to the dinner, and it takes a little pressure off of your back. Most people don't mind, and many may even want to make a little something of their own. I know my cousins and I love to add a dish to the mix.

The only thing I can suggest is to either pick up an extra shift at work one day that you wouldn't normally work and devout the money you make that day to your beautiful Thanksgiving dinner. If that is not an option, spend wisely and use a credit card to pay for the ingredients you need, and then look forward to that upcoming tax return to pay it all off Confused

I know. The main reason i agreed is because he said they would do everything. All of a sudden I am making the turkey, half the side dishes, dessert and providing drinks. I am already working full time with full time school. I don't like credit cards and being in debt. I do have one but it is emergencies only and to build credit. I was on a strict budget and it is edging its way out of the window

I understand what you mean. My husband and I are in the exact same boat. I hope you figure something out, hun. If nothing else, just try being honest with your dad. Let him know with this happening all of a sudden and with Christmas coming up. you weren't prepared financially to purchase an entire dinner. Let him know you'll be more than happy to help in whatever way you can to prepare the meal, but that you can not purcahse everything yourself at this time. Good luck!

Thanks! I will try. It didnt help that he was helping us with an oil change on our cars and put a hole in my boyfriends transmission filter. We HAD to buy a new one and then he complained about the cost of doing it for us. I will do my best right now but anything I can't do I won't.

why don't you ask your dad to pitch in monetary wise? I would ask my mom for some help if i didn't have the means.

I am going to talk to him today. Another issue has popped up that is way more important than buying a bunch of food we wouldnt normally eat. I am glad to cook it and let a bunch of people who irritate the hell out of me come into my home but he is pushing it right now.
