Hello all. I am new to this forum. I would like some help with a horrible feeling and problem I been having for 3 months now. Since September I been having this feeling of something stuck in my throat and difficulty swallowing.

It all started in September. I ate a beef patty while over at my friend's house, I ate it really quickly because I was hungry and did not chew it very well. I feeled like it got stuck in my throat and the spices from it burned me somewhat from the feeling I remember. I dranked alot of water and I was horrible that night.

I think this is when the majority of the problems started, although before this happened I was already having very minor problems swallowing, sometimes I would have to clear my throat but was still able to swallow food ok and I would get the food come back up as well on many occasions but did not think much of it, as a liquid.

After the beef patty incident, I could not swallow solid foods afterwards on the next day, my mom was really worried. I am 29 years old male by the way and I live with my mom and my sister and we have no health insurance. My mom started making blended vegetables for me to drink as a soup almost, mashed potatoes etc, squash etc.

If I tried to eat anything more solid I would feel like the food gets stuck after I swallowed it and I would get really scared and panic. I would have to drink alot of water afterwards. A week later we went to the emergency room. The doctor did a x-ray and said it came out clear and said oh it's probably a hair in your throat, I was so angry and just gave me a paper that said I had swallowing problems.

I went to 2 more emergency room visits on one occasion they did a catscan of my throat and the doctor just said I had a thickening there and wrote me off saying I had swallowing problems and referred me to a ent. I ended up going to a ent that allowed us to go to his clinic and that would bill later, since we have no insurance.

The ENT doctor put a tube down my nose and down my throat and said I had nothing wrong at all after 15 seconds of the tube being in there. I was sorta mad he referred me to a gastroentologist--(( sorry if wrong spelling. ))

We ended up going to this doctor and paying him cash for the visits. He gave me prevacid after I explaining to him that I could not swallow solid foods. He also scheduled me for a barium swallow. The barium swallow came up as clear nothing wrong but showed signs of gerd from what the x-ray technician said. The doctor gave me a prescription for prevacid solutabs and told me to keep taking those, one a day.

I also got a endoscopy and that came out clear but he said my esophagus was inflamed and I had a bacteria called pholry or something, ??? i'm not sure. He gave me some strong antibiotics but my heart started going really fast and I stopped taking them after 4 days, I had to take them for 10 days at least.

He told me to stop taking them and I have a appointment with him on the 21st of November now. The problem is now I still am having trouble swallowing, feeling of food gettign stuck in my throat and on top of this now my heart still beats fast now through the day, it slows down at times but goes fast again for now reason.

The fast heartbeats happens alot when I am in bed in my house all alone. I started to get anxiety attacks, I think it is. It's a feeling in my stomach, and a feeling in my heart area like pinching and needles, I called the ambulance once already and they did a ake I think it's called heart test and they said everything was normal. I am freaking out now though I still am getting axiety attacks, fast heart beat and food getting stuck feeling in throat. Someone please help!!!.

On the 20th I'm seeing a general medicine doctor for the heart and axiety and the 21th going back to see the gastroentologist. Please anyone what is wrong with me? Anyone have had this? I am going crazy basically. My friends think it's in my head now. Please help!

Oh by the way the prevacid has helped with the acid but I am still having swallowing problems, I have taken the prevacid for almost 1 month now I think. Thank you.

Sounds Like You Have Globus Histericus
Apparently, my doctor told me I had Globus histericus as well.....same thing heart racing start to panic and then it just gets worse...which my Dr explained, Globus histericus feeds on itself, sooo the more you panic, the worse it gets....apparently it isnt a big deal....see when you said "my friends think it is my head" That may be exactly why Globus Histericus would completly explain that it feeds on itself!! Also maybe Thyroid a condition....Im getting my bloodwork done ASAP to check for Thyroid problems....the heartbeat problem is a major symptom of Thyroid problems...hope this helps!

same exact thing
I have had the same exact experience. Started on anxiety meds for the panic. All started after a near choking episode and a panic attack. I've had these symptoms for 6 weeks and have lost 15 pounds. I eat mush and can't get more than a few bites down without feeling like food is stuck and I can't breathe. Acid reducers don't work for me, make me feel worse. I'm thinking I'll get an endoscopy but I don't know what this is or how to stop it. Just want to eat again!

The feeling of food getting stuck...
I haven't been able to eat solid foods now for 2 weeks..It all started when I got a pill stuck in my throat. I went to the emergency room and they sent me home said it would desolve and that I was breathing fine. I have been living on popsicles and water. I have been to a ent and he had me do a barium test, but they said that I was swallowing just fine. After seeing him twice he said he couldn't help me any more and sent me to a gastro/intestino doctor..He thought I had ulcers so I am taking medication for that. I am going for a scope test in 2 wks..I just can't wait that long. I went to the hospital the other night because I tried to swallow and couldn't well that lead me into a major panic attack..The hospital still would not do any thing for me. I have anxiety now and depression. No one in my house understands. They tell me just to force some thing down to eat. I wish I knew what was going on. I have read every one elses and it now seems like I will be going through this for a long time without finding out what the problem is..

check for tonsil stones
It could be a tonsil stone. If you have 6 inch q tips from select medical supply pharmacys, you can see if you have any in your tonsils.

no idea for the thing stuck in your throat. But for the anxiousity attacks I heard it helps to focus on details of certain things like a flower petal or a ridge of a door..

My 13 yr old daughter is going through the same thing. Has not eaten solid food for almost 2 months. Had blood work for everything - normal, xrays of her throat - normal, barium swallow - normal, endoscopy with biopsy - normal. She had the panic attacks at first too but they have stopped. GI Dr. says she needs to see a swallowing therapist. She really believes it's not "all in her head" I wish it wasn't, but I don't know.

To the OP - I'm so sorry! How awful that your condition is being blown off, and treated with something that's making your heart race! I read your post because my own painful lump started a few weeks ago. It's just "there" but every few hours it will get worse like a stabbing/choking deep in my throat, back of neck area. I saw the doctor today and he said it's likely stress, gave me Prilosec... hope it doesn't make my heart race. I'm being scheduled for two different scopes, not looking forward to them, unless they will show something. I hope they figure out what is causing yours, please keep us updated here.
