Hello all. I am new to this forum. I would like some help with a horrible feeling and problem I been having for 3+ months now. Since September I been having this feeling of something stuck in my throat and difficulty swallowing.

It all started in September. I ate a beef patty while over at my friend's house, I ate it really quickly because I was hungry and did not chew it very well. I feeled like it got stuck in my throat and the spices from it burned me somewhat from the feeling I remember. I dranked alot of water and I was horrible that night.

I think this is when the majority of the problems started, although before this happened I was already having very minor problems swallowing, sometimes I would have to clear my throat but was still able to swallow food ok and I would get the food come back up as well on many occasions but did not think much of it, as a liquid.

After the beef patty incident, I could not swallow solid foods afterwards on the next day, my mom was really worried. I am 29 years old male by the way and I live with my mom and my sister and we have no health insurance. My mom started making blended vegetables for me to drink as a soup almost, mashed potatoes etc, squash etc.

If I tried to eat anything more solid I would feel like the food gets stuck after I swallowed it and I would get really scared and panic. I would have to drink alot of water afterwards. A week later we went to the emergency room. The doctor did a x-ray and said it came out clear and said oh it's probably a hair in your throat, I was so angry and just gave me a paper that said I had swallowing problems.

I went to 2 more emergency room visits on one occasion they did a catscan of my throat and the doctor just said I had a thickening there and wrote me off saying I had swallowing problems and referred me to a ent. I ended up going to a ent that allowed us to go to his clinic and that would bill later, since we have no insurance.

The ENT doctor put a tube down my nose and down my throat and said I had nothing wrong at all after 15 seconds of the tube being in there. I was sorta mad he referred me to a gastroentologist--(( sorry if wrong spelling. ))

We ended up going to this doctor and paying him cash for the visits. He gave me prevacid after I explaining to him that I could not swallow solid foods. He also scheduled me for a barium swallow. The barium swallow came up as clear nothing wrong but showed signs of gerd from what the x-ray technician said. The doctor gave me a prescription for prevacid solutabs and told me to keep taking those, one a day.

I also got a endoscopy and that came out clear but he said my esophagus was inflamed and I had a bacteria called pholry or something, ??? i'm not sure. He gave me some strong antibiotics but my heart started going really fast and I stopped taking them after 4 days, I had to take them for 10 days at least.

He told me to stop taking them and I have a appointment with him on the 21st of November now. The problem is now I still am having trouble swallowing, feeling of food gettign stuck in my throat and on top of this now my heart still beats fast now through the day, it slows down at times but goes fast again for now reason.

The fast heartbeats happens alot when I am in bed in my house all alone. I started to get anxiety attacks, I think it is. It's a feeling in my stomach, and a feeling in my heart area like pinching and needles, I called the ambulance once already and they did a ake I think it's called heart test and they said everything was normal. I am freaking out now though I still am getting axiety attacks, fast heart beat and food getting stuck feeling in throat. Someone please help!!!.

On the 20th I'm seeing a general medicine doctor for the heart and axiety and the 21th going back to see the gastroentologist. Please anyone what is wrong with me? Anyone have had this? I am going crazy basically. My friends think it's in my head now. Please help!

Oh by the way the prevacid has helped with the acid but I am still having swallowing problems, I have taken the prevacid for almost 1 month now I think. Thank you.

Sounds Like You Have Globus Histericus
Apparently, my doctor told me I had Globus histericus as well.....same thing heart racing start to panic and then it just gets worse...which my Dr explained, Globus histericus feeds on itself, sooo the more you panic, the worse it gets....apparently it isnt a big deal....see when you said "my friends think it is my head" That may be exactly why Globus Histericus would completly explain that it feeds on itself!! Also maybe Thyroid a condition....Im getting my bloodwork done ASAP to check for Thyroid problems....the heartbeat problem is a major symptom of Thyroid problems...hope this helps!

same exact thing
I have had the same exact experience. Started on anxiety meds for the panic. All started after a near choking episode and a panic attack. I've had these symptoms for 6 weeks and have lost 15 pounds. I eat mush and can't get more than a few bites down without feeling like food is stuck and I can't breathe. Acid reducers don't work for me, make me feel worse. I'm thinking I'll get an endoscopy but I don't know what this is or how to stop it. Just want to eat again!

The feeling of food getting stuck...
I haven't been able to eat solid foods now for 2 weeks..It all started when I got a pill stuck in my throat. I went to the emergency room and they sent me home said it would desolve and that I was breathing fine. I have been living on popsicles and water. I have been to a ent and he had me do a barium test, but they said that I was swallowing just fine. After seeing him twice he said he couldn't help me any more and sent me to a gastro/intestino doctor..He thought I had ulcers so I am taking medication for that. I am going for a scope test in 2 wks..I just can't wait that long. I went to the hospital the other night because I tried to swallow and couldn't well that lead me into a major panic attack..The hospital still would not do any thing for me. I have anxiety now and depression. No one in my house understands. They tell me just to force some thing down to eat. I wish I knew what was going on. I have read every one elses and it now seems like I will be going through this for a long time without finding out what the problem is..

no idea for the thing stuck in your throat. But for the anxiousity attacks I heard it helps to focus on details of certain things like a flower petal or a ridge of a door..

My 13 yr old daughter is going through the same thing. Has not eaten solid food for almost 2 months. Had blood work for everything - normal, xrays of her throat - normal, barium swallow - normal, endoscopy with biopsy - normal. She had the panic attacks at first too but they have stopped. GI Dr. says she needs to see a swallowing therapist. She really believes it's not "all in her head" I wish it wasn't, but I don't know.

To the OP - I'm so sorry! How awful that your condition is being blown off, and treated with something that's making your heart race! I read your post because my own painful lump started a few weeks ago. It's just "there" but every few hours it will get worse like a stabbing/choking deep in my throat, back of neck area. I saw the doctor today and he said it's likely stress, gave me Prilosec... hope it doesn't make my heart race. I'm being scheduled for two different scopes, not looking forward to them, unless they will show something. I hope they figure out what is causing yours, please keep us updated here.

I have the same thing. Been thinking about going to e.r or scheduling an appt but all these people on here have had lots of tests just to be told it's in your head. Well, i know im not crazy.. Here's my story..We ate at Taco Bell & on the way home I started feeling nauseous. Soon after I got this "sensation of something sharp stuck deep in my throat". I can eat, swallow & drink just fine. It seems when I swallow & my throat is drier that i feel the pinching/stabbing feeling dead center in my chest. When I feel this sensation my heart goes into override & I can't control it's beating. The more I think about what it could be the faster it beats & i start to shake. The feeling of something stuck in your throat does weird things to you. My mother gave suggested Nexium the second day, so I took one & the sharp pain stopped & it was dull, still there, but duller. So I took another one the next day. Slept elevated in bed & On the 3rd day i woke up feeling fine. No pain, dull or sharp. Periodically theoughout that 3rd day I would feel better & worse, nauseous at times, never threw up though. I would feel the thing in my throat one swallow & not in the next or there would be a difference in the pain. I'm baffled on what to do. Doctors piss me off cause they will stab a diagnosis at you & then you find out, it's not that. try again.....

Check out CIPRO
I too have problems with my esophogus and stomach. I went to a gastrointernologist(sp?) who diagnosed me with h-pylori and prescribed CIPRO. I took the CIPRO for 5 days and it made me so sick that I missed a week of work. The symptoms were severe heart palpatations (went to the Emergency Room thinking I was dying) EXTREME anxiety that lasted weeks after stopping treatment and sever weakness. CIPRO is generally prescribed for h-pylori and the floride in it causes flouridosis in people. Research it, that is probably the cause of your secondary symptoms....

Some of you might benefit from looking into TMJ and also just in normal neck spasms. There are so many things that can cause neck pain and feel for all that are in constant pain. I will list several possiblities and depending on how you all started in relation might look them up and see if you can find any beneficial information.

GERDS, Eagles Syndrome, TMJ, neck spasms(cricopharyngeal spasm), trigeminal neuralgia, LPR, anxiety

There are more but that might give some of you a list to start working off of. GL

Something stuck in the throat trouble swallowing
I had the same problems and finally went to a chiropractor which explained it as follows.

Treatment their way helps but you have to keep on it.

I copied and pasted their explanation and gave the web site above, so you can go and look for yourself. This really works for heartburn and the feeling of food being stuck in your throat. You can call them and see if there is someone in your area that treats the same way.

At least check into it, You have already gone through the medical test and they found nothing. What do any of you have to lose? Good Luck.

Oh by the way, I too had the endoscopy and barium swallow tests done and came back normal.

In simplest terms, a subluxation (a.k.a. Vertebral Subluxation) is when one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in your spine. This pressure or irritation on the nerves then causes those nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling over those nerves.

How does this affect you? Your nervous system controls and coordinates all the functions of your body. If you interfere with the signals traveling over nerves, parts of your body will not get the proper nerve messages and will not be able to function at 100% of their innate abilities. In other words, some part of your body will not be working properly It is the responsibility of the Doctor of Chiropractic to locate subluxations, and reduce or correct them. This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments specifically designed to correct the vertebral subluxations in your spine. Chiropractors are the only professionals who undergo years of training to be the experts at correcting subluxations.

Just a tip for those already using a proton pump inhibitor.. if one a day doesn't work, and you still have trouble swallowing, with rabeprazole(Pariet), my doctor told me to try and up it to 2 a day for a week or two, if I still had complications. I don't know if you can do that for all the other kinds of proton pump inhibitors, but it's worth checking with your doctors if you still have trouble swallowing while taking one a day.

i had the same problem before.it started last year's winter.i thought i had some infections so went and saw a doctor.the ent prescribed antibiotic and steroids to ease the pain and it helped a little bit but the feeling something stuck in the throat was still there.although my throat was not sore it was just the feeling.it went on for almost six months.finally i went to another ent.this time he took a real good look inside my throat and he said he did not find anything.he thought i have allergy and prescribed me allegra once a day.i was taking allegra for about 3 days but seem no effect at all but on the 4th day i was already feeling allright.i am now taking allegra once a day and the feeling of something is stuck in my throat is gone.

Trouble swallowing
I am having the exact same problem of having something stuck in my throat. It's only been about a week. I went to the emergency room after I took an antacid and started flipping out because my heart was beating fast and I started to shake. The ER Doctor told me I was freaking out and sent me home. I went to my general physician and she told me it was probably reflux causing irritation in my esophagus, which could be making my throat narrow in some places. She put me on prilosec for 14 days, and told me if it doesn't get better she'll do a barium(xray). I've been on the prilosec for 3 days, teh heartburn has decreased but the felling of something stuck in my throat has not left. I really want to get a scope of my throat to reassure me that there is nothing there.

Has anyone else besides pokpok had any good news? I really want to eat again.
