As a mother of 2 I am constantly in the car. Either running errands or working. Everyday i'm scared beyond belief that I will get naseous and need the throw up. After a little while in the car I begin getting naseous my heart starts beating quickly, my palms sweat, and I just want to breakdown and cry. After a while it subsides, but I live my life in fear. I would rather be a home body than go far from my home and feel sick. I'm tired of telling my friends that I have plans when they ask for us to go to the the movies, rodeo, mall, ect. I don't want anyone to hear or see me get sick and throwing up on the freeway would be the ultimate embarrassment. My husband is beginning to think I'm a ridiculous hypocondriac. Help! My family life is suffering also, because I rarely will go to public places. Any suggestions?

Is it all in my head? Or could it possibly be a lagit medical problem? My nasea dosen't always just exist in the car.

I know you posted this months ago, but just browsing the forums, I thought I'd jump in since you've gotten no response. This most definitely sounds like an anxiety problem. You need to desentisize yourself from these fears, which I know is often easier said than done, but it is the proper Rx for your problem, assuming it is anxiety-related, and I do.

First of all, you need to convince yourself that vomiting is a normal (and often healthy) bodily function. It can save your life! That said, I don't know of anyone who enjoys it, but so what? Everyone has done it and will always do it, even if rarely. I've seen people throw up during foot races quite a few times...it's really no big deal. It is no major crises. It is your anxiety that makes it become one. If you're worried about getting sick in public, just ask yourself...how many times have I really gotten sick and thrown up in public? I would guess never. If you're, say, at the mall one day, and have to throw up, just go to any restroom (and there are many in malls) and do it. No one is going to throw in jail for it; no one is going to say you are a bad person for it. In fact, no one will probably even know you were sick. Don't build prison walls like this around yourself. It is just plain silly.

I have heard of people getting nauseous in cars from chemicals coming off the plastic interior.
If it is an anxiety problem, it could be caused by a low cortisol level.
You can have a doctor do a cortisol response test and if necessary, treat the symptoms with oral hydrocortisone. It does sound like an adrenal stress problem. It's possible these symptoms can be addressed nutritionally. I would start there. Call a nutritionist and ask.
