Q: Your Thoughts On the Values of Women These Days

Ok let me start this out like this I am 37 not a barbie doll but not massively obese either I say this bcuz ppl love to say that if you are overweight or older you are more prone to feel as I do . I hate the way women are portraying themselves I find it very hard to watch Tv or movies now bcuz every minute there is a woman degrading themselves acting sluty, taking off their cloths or just acting like they are dumb . I get it that they are acting but in reality our young girls are seeing them and they are the role models of these days for these girls and they mimic them you can see it in the way the girls are dressing and acting and I cant quite understand why women have to go to such extremes to show off their bodies and are their acting skills so bad that they have to play "stupid" in roles ? I thought women wanted to make a positive image for themselves and stand up fpr their rights like the women who burned their bras lol Embarassed I just think it is sad that the world has come to this maybe I am getting old but does anyone else feel like this too ??

I'm 25 and I agree with you completely. I keep hoping there will be some smart and moral role models for our daughters to follow but each year seems to be getting worse. I mean look at Brittany Spears... ugh what a train wreck. I'm 33 weeks prego with my first (baby girl) and I already dred her growing into a young lady in this world. I can't understand why any girl young or old would be ok with the so called role models we have, let alone spend time watching them, imitating them and dressing like them. It's really depressing and sad to see how pathetic women are made out to be these days. I can't stand tv and I hate any type of sleeze... which is everywhere >< Guess I'm old fashioned but I love women with ambition, stregth, integrity, and who is very moral and down to earth. Where have they all gone? Sad

I don't see it everywhere, but if you're so offended by this kind of thing then why do you have a girl "slutting" herself out in your user icon? :/

Yes, there are a lot of images of women that are illogical and do not represent real women; but at the same time we are making strong strides towards our own freedoms. When it comes down to it, a woman has the right to bear her breasts on TV whether YOU like it or not.

Some girls on tv no are not he best role models but some are. I just make sure my 7 year old watches ones that I agree are ok for her to watch. The disney channel has some great ones. You just have to make sure she knows how YOU are and you should be the ultimate role model! Smile

Again I am being proteryed as a prude but I am just concerned about how not animated or airbrushed women are being prortreyed and yes I have a icon but this is not real life and that is not a real woman and you and everyone knows that if I had a real woman bearing herself then you could have something to say and if you would have read my first post you would have understood that and YES it is everywhere and Yes they do have a right to bare their breasts the same as smokers have a right to smoke but when does common courtesy kick in and the need to be able to do something stop ? yes they can smoke but it is a choice to do it so why cant they smoke in designated areas after all they want to do it I dont ,
the same with nudity if it is a choice then why do kids, and ppl who do not like it have to see it exspecially if it is all over like tv I can not watch it but is that fair ? that is like saying ok smokers go ahead and smoke I will hold my breath .
I am not against it all together but I just think it is ones own right to be subjected to it and if there were more positive women out there shown as much as the negitive it would be better

so its not a real person?

kids these days look up to figures in cartoons
yor being hypocritcle to say that you can havea pic of a woman being slutty like that if shes "not real"
but if it was a "real" woman it would be different?

no
its the same thing
if not even worse

I was just debating the issue of dress codes in school and at work; maybe it will make you feel better to know that I am strongly FOR dress codes at colleges, high/middle/elementary schools and in the work place.

However, on your own private time, you have the right to wear whatever you want.

So the bikini top I wore to class yesterday is a no...?

JK, I rarely ever see women wearing offensive stuff on campus or at work. Most of the jobs I work have a pretty strict dress code though and it's pretty cold up here too so thats probably why I never see it. You'd have to be nine kinds of crazy to wear something skimpy when you have to walk to class in the cold! I have to wear layers!

Pepsigurl, I know what you are trying to say, but I have to disagree with cartoons not having an affect on what your child thinks. Have you seen bratz? Sheesh, my family put a stop to that the second my little sister wanted to watch it. Six year olds should be watching Dora the Explorer, Disney shows, or cartoons... Not mtv and well, whatever else there is.

Just pay attention to what your kid watches. Simple as that. Another thing that helps is saying she's beautiful the way she is. I tell my little sister she's beautiful whenever I come home, just as I tell my little brother he's looking good too. It always seems to help with any self confidence issues those two go through.

Thanks Maddie yep I do tell her often how she is beautiful just the way she is and I also say well mommy isnt skinny am I pretty to you ? and she says yes and I say see it dont matter what you look like cuz I will always love you too and she smiles. She is really into Hannah Montanna and so far she is a pretty good girl to look up to for a 6 yr old so wish me luck lol
So thanks everyone for your input on this I just wondered what others thought .

haha Hannah montanna is fine. I'm ok with my little sister watching her. Although I wouldn't let her go to any concerts. I worked one for volunteer work in the concessions (barf) for my swim team.

I've never seen so many little girls with cheap hair extentension, high boots, and body glitter in my life! Very Happy
