Driving Me Insane!

ugh Layla is driving me insane this morning. Her dad gave her a dummy to comfort her while she is ill . she normally has it for bed and passes it to me in the morning. well now she wants it all the time cause her dad gave her it all the time.

she knows the 'bedtime fairy' doesn't exist cause she saw me putting it in the kitchen cupboard. i really don't want her having a dummy. logan has never wanted one. i'm thinking of just going cold turkey and not giving her it at all.

any tips or ideas on how to stop her sreaming for it all day (and inevitably all night) long? distraction isn't working at the mo.

How about use Christmas as your tool? My cousin told her kids "Santa is taking your pacie for the babies!" and they were fine with it! Of course they sometimes ask for it, but it worked.

"don't you want to share with the babies? Santa's going to take your pacie for the little babies not the big kids"

lol

you could try trading it in for something else. when i was a nanny one of the little girls had these disgusting things we called "chewy rags" and she chewed and sucked on the corners all the time (they smelled like vomit), when she was 2 we took her to the toy store and let her pick anything she wanted to be her new bedtime soother. she picked a stuffed dog and we went home and threw away all the rags and that was it, no fuss at all.

the santa one sounds good too.

Oh my daughter loved her binkie. We only used it for bedtime and naps. But she did not want to give it up. Bridget's idea sounds great - try getting her to choose her own nighttime soother - then she will be the Big Girl in charge of herself and feel in control of giving up her binkie.

I wouldn't have the heart to have Santa be the bad guy Sad Even if he was taking it for the babies. It would feel like he was stealing. Smile

FYI: fathers aren't always on the same page as mothers with the weekend visits. They often take the path of least resistance and give in way more than they should. Do not send a binkie when they go to daddy's house. Wink

Speaking of nighttime soothers, when I was born I was given a blanket made by one of my mom's friends who I still know today. I couldn't sleep without it. To this day, I still sleep with it when I'm feeling sad or scared and it always calms me down.

Off topic, but I had to share. Smile

I like Bridget's idea. Try that.

I also think though considering Layla's age that it would be okay to go cold turkey.

i thought that too. she'll probably be upset for awhile but she's old enough to understand if you tell her she's a big girl and big girls don't need pacifiers.

does logan get one too? that might make things harder so you might want to consider breaking both of them of the habit.

I've been trying to break Kaylee from her binky & only give it to her for naps & bed & Shane keeps giving it right back to her! So I kind of know how you feel Beck! She does just fine without it too & he gives it to her just for the hell of it I guess.

I read about how this lady broke her daughter of using the paci.... she said there was a "paci fairy" that needed to gather all of the paci's from the big girls and give them to the little babies that didn't have any. So the lady and her daughter gathered up all her paci's and put them in a paper bag, then set the paper bag outside... then in the morning, the daughter opened up the bag and found a new doll and a note from the "paci fairy" thanking the daughter for being a big girl and giving her pacis to the babies, and there was a Big Girl Certificate in it that said she was an Official Big Girl Very
Happy

I thought that was cute.
