i have a friend who thinks she may be pregnant, shes a year older then me, 17, and i was wondering if it was possible for her to get an abortion (if she really turns out to be pregnant) without parental consent and without her family even finding out. If so, how much would this cost her? We live in vancouver, canada and there are a few clinics near us, but i'm really worried about her and she really doesnt want her family finding out.

Even tho i am strongly against it i belive it is a persons choice. So i hope this is helpful

In Canada, abortion is subject only to medical legislation, and there are no laws regulating abortion. Under the Canadian health care system, abortion is available on request, regardless of the woman's age or trimester of her pregnancy. Confidentiality laws protect minors' rights to withhold information regarding prescription medication or medical procedures such as abortions from their guardian(s). Women who do not have medical coverage are required to pay $370.00 Women who have medical coverage are required to pay $80

Tell her to bring money, then. She could always look in the phone book to find the nearest clinic, call and then ask them all of these types of questions. Good luck. She's lucky to have a good friend like you to help her. Smile

I just checked Victoria's Options Pregnancy Website. It's confusing in Canada, because Health Care funding falls under the responsibility of the provinces . This means that for a woman in Ontario, an Abortion can cost less or more than a woman in Nova Scotia depending on how much each province covers under its medical policy.

In any case, I believe that Abortion in British Columbia (both medical and surgical) is completely covered EXCEPT for pain medication which can be around $50. Without BC Medical it can cost around $270 (for medical abortion). I have Private Messaged you the website so you can take a look yourself. They also provide phone numbers to call... I know it's through Victoria, but I think they provide a phone number that will get you in contact with British Columbia's Health Ministry and you can ask for information about getting an abortion in Vancouver.
I hope this helps!

Abortions are done without consent of the parents at 14 in Quebec. They ARE FREE if you chose to go with a governement funded clinic or hospital and about 350.00 for a private one.

Your understansing is wrong. Yes, we all have free medical but you must have the "medical card " provided by the gov in order to get free medical. Some people lose the cards and such .I think once they obtain a medical card they can be refunded .

It's true, however the provinces are responsible for dictating what procedures can be covered.

In New Brunwick, for example, the province doesn't fund abortions. Another example, in Ontario, I have to pay to see the Eye Doctor if I don't have private medical insurance... same with the Dentist. In other provinces this isn't the case.

And, yes, you have to have your health card to recieve health services.
