Hello,

After the last time my girlfriend and I made love, we decided to take hiv tests, this is our life so this is what we wanted to do. I took a PCR DNA test by Lab Corp. She is in China and her results came back HIV-1 positive, I do not know what test was done for her. I took my PCR test 5 days after being with her and I am negative.

I love this woman very much, I am just trying to learn what I can.

Is the PCR DNA test valid if taken 5 days after intercourse?

Where is the best place to find HIV and AIDS information in China. I want to stand by her and do everything I can

Thank you

Can you ask your girlfriend which test was done to her?
PCR test aims to test for HIV infection that occurred as little as 10 days prior to the test. It's is not 100% reliable and usually is recommend that this HIV test is followed-up with an HIV Duo Test (HIV antibody and p24 antigen test) at 28 days after the suspected infection.

MandMs,

Thank you for responding. We are trying to find out what test was done. After testing at a local hospital they only told her "you have aids" in front of everyone. Then they said the government would contact her. A few days later she was contacted and went to a government hospital. She was given a certificate saying she was HIV-1 positive.

They have not said what test, or additional tests were done.

Yesterday she went to check her cd4 count. We will know more next week.

I am so sad and I really want to support her. This will be very difficult for her and at this time I am not in China.

I understand your worry, especially because discrimination and stigma of HIV positive people are still present in China.

Waiting for your post!
Best wishes,
Marija

HIV patients have a significant and progressive cellular immune defect caused by a decrease in the number of T helper cells.
During the course of HIV-1 infection there is a progressive decrease of CD4 T cells, but CD8 T cells usually remain at higher levels than those of uninfected individuals. In late stage disease, both T cell populations decline rapidly. CD4 T cell decrease is linked to the extent of viral replication, the efficacy of the host immune response such as CD8 T cell mediated cytotoxicity, and apoptosis (death of cell). In addition, late CD4 T cell depletion might result from a progressive exhaustion through a continuously elevated T cell turnover.
