Hello,

I am new to these forums and in dire need of help. I've always had a general breathing problem/sinus problem since I can remember. I was pretty sure I had a deviated septum but never thought much of it. In march, I recently found out that I had a perforated septum. I had a large hole, almost dime size, where my septum should be. In any case, on monday I receive surgery to address only the perforated septum. The doctor inserted a prosthetic "button" in my nose. Ever since monday I CAN NOT BREATHE WHATSOEVER. I breathe completely through my mouth now. My mouth is dry and it's to the point where I cant even sleep without waking every 15 minutes. I called the doctor and was instead connected to someone to answer my post-op questions. They said this is normal and it is because of swelling and in days, perhaps weeks (weeks?!?!) I will be "quite pleased" with the results. Well here's my take: I have a deviated septum and that needs to be addressed. Fixing this hole in my nose was innane, at best.

Regardless, I apologize to have such an abrasive first post but this is very uncomfortable. Is this in fact "normal"? I feel no swelling at all. Will I breathe better in time? How much time? Etc...I only know I cannot breathe through my nose and sudafed/anything else does not help. Please help me out on this matter, it will be much appreciated.

Extremely eHealthy
I haven't had a surgery like this or known anyone to have it. I just wanted to offer my condolences and wish you luck with recovery. When do you go back to see your doctor for post-op follow up?
