Description: Grapefruits have a high concentration of Pectin, a soluble fibre which helps reduce blood cholesterol levels. The mechanism appears to be an increase of viscosity in the intestinal tract, leading to a reduced absorption of cholesterol from bile or food.

How To Take: One grapefruit a day.

Not To Use With: Grapefruit affects some drugs, so check with your doctor first.

Side Effects: The risk of muscle toxicity associated with statins may increase when grapefruit is consumed due to the nature of some of its contents which might increase circulating levels of several prescription drugs including statins.

Expected Results Within: 30 days

Red grapefruit is found to be more effective than white in lowering lipids, particularly blood triglycerides, a type of cholesterol whose elevated levels are often associated with heart problems.
Antioxidants in the grapefruits are responsible for their health benefits, and the red variety generally has higher antioxidants than the white.
