Hello everyone,

I have had a history of spotting and breakthrough bleeding on many types of BCPs in the past. In the last 6 months or so I was switched to Minovral and I have found I rarely get spotting and my periods are actually shorter.

I am concerned because I am experiencing this now. Here's the story. On the day I started my pill pack for this month my partner and I had intercourse unprotected (we usually never do this, however it was one of those spontaneous moments). I'm not sure why but he was unable to ejaculate. Anyways I began my pill pack that night and have not missed a pill since. One week later I found a good amount of bright pink and red blood when I went to the washroom after intercourse. This did not return but throughout the week I would occasionally have a very light brown tint when I would wipe (almost unnoticeable). This has become heavier and heavier. It's still light, but I have noticed some stringiness to it, and also I have been finding it on my panties the last few days. It is brown. I am due for my period some time next week but I am still fretting and worrying about what this could be. Anyone with similar experiences? Anyone can shed some light on this situation?

Thanks,

A

It sounds like your body is adjusting to the new pill to me. You could call a nurse and ask to be sure though.

"I had intercourse unprotected"
It is not unprotected if you are on birth control and taking it correctly. I would assume that the bleeding is just spotting, especially if you have a history of it. You can check with your obgyn if you are concerned, but I wouldn't be worried about it.

Yeah I've been thinking its spotting too, but I'm paranoid and ever since I started on this pill the most I've had is some red spotting a couple days before my period is due. Right now it's been brown getting progressively heavier for 2 weeks... And today it started becoming a little pinker.

I'm wondering if other factors could influence these changes. I have suddenly in the past 2 weeks started drinking coffee regularly (I'm very caffeine sensitive and I rarely used to drink). Also despite my high fibre diet I have become severely constipated/bloated and have taken a laxative twice in the last 2 days in attempts to relieve this (though I have been careful not to take them within 3 hours of taking my pill). I'm wondering if my body could suddenly have changed and not have sufficient amounts of hormone in the pill to maintain things.
