Is dating an older man ethically/morally wrong? Talking 10 years plus?

Why in the world would it be ethically wrong? If they want to do it then they do it. A 40 year old and a 30 year old doesn't sound freaky, nor does a 30 year old and a 20 year old. Obviously the woman must be over the age of 18 for legal reasons.

Ask your parents! Ha ha...

J/k.

I'm w/ someone 12 years older. But I'll be 30 next year. If your screen name is indicative of your age, 19, then I think it would really depend on the individuals involved.

I feel that most people by the age of 23 are mature enough to realise that age is not a factor for love.

However, I do not think maturity has to do with an opinion on a may, december romance. Because I think it is save to say that there are still taboo in American POP culture/ culture or else they would not get so much publicity?

Well, my recent ex was 7 years older than me, which is quite close to 10. Our break up was not due to age; so I can't completely understand why a couple around 10 years apart couldn't work out. Now, 15-20 years is getting odd.

It's a taboo but I really don't know why, since in the past it used to be very common for older men to wed younger women.

That is what I wanted the debate to be about why is it taboo? I just did not elaborate very well in my first post.

I really have no idea why it's taboo. The only thing that comes to mind is perhaps the sexual revolution and the revolution of love earlier in the 20th century led to this fear of returning to the "old ways". Men and women had gained the social right to marry whoever they wanted whenever they wanted; perhaps they fear(ed) that dating someone older would cause a return to forced/arranged marriages classically set between a young woman and an older man?

I was just thinking of posting a topic on this issue. I don't know why this is such a taboo thing in our society. I am 27 and my husband is 43. We have been together going on 8 years. I have heard some pretty offensive comments in public about our age difference. I wish people would get over this issue. If both people are over 18 (as someone else said legal issues) it should not matter what their ages are.

I think that a lot of times older men toss away their aging wives and trade them in for younger models. That bugs me and is sorrta unethical just because it is a piggish thing to do.

However, I think we have very little choice in who we love. So if a 22 year old wants to marry an 80 year old millionaire, that's just fine with me. It doesn't really affect me, personally.

I think that adult children feel strange when their parents break up and Dad ends up marrying a woman who is younger than they are. It goes both ways, sometimes guys marry older women, but I think it is less frequent. I wonder why THAT is?

I wouldn't sweat it. My mother and her husband are 18 years apart.

I realize i am a little late, well alot late on this subject but i have something to say on this.

My grandparents were 21 years apart and they had 13 kids together, technically 15 but two were miscarriages, and they were both very happy together they met when she was 18 and him 39 almost 40. they were married until my grandpa died and my gma died 10 years later. they were extremely happy together even though he was legally able to drink when she was born. i don't think age has anything to do with it personally,

I don't think it's a big deal, as long as ADULTS are doing it. That means you are 18 or over. Honestly, even then, I think there is something wrong with a man who wants to be with a teenager. Same for a woman.
