Hi I'm thinking about going on the new birth control implant Implanon, it's a small insert in the back of the arm similar to noraplant only, this is just one small stick insted of 3-5 it lasts 3 years, and I'm curious if anyone else has tried it or heard anything about it? It's efficiency etc?
Answers much appreciated!
Thanks ya'll!

It's extremely efficient! It's much better than Norplant was. I wanted to get it but couldn't, so I got Depo.

I don't know if you still need advice or not but I thought i'd reply since I was looking around as much as possible before I got my implanon.

First, I am in the US so Implanon recently became available. I got mine implanted about 3 months ago and have still yet to have a period (Which is great!). If you rely on this monthly to reassure yourself this may not be the option for you.

Before Implanon I tried Seasonale but kept forgetting to take it. So then I decided to try Depo Provera but got horrible migraines (It had been a few years since I had one before that point but had one for about a month straight).

With implanon, I have not had any headaches or any of the listed side effects. I would recommed this to anybody.

implanon implant
I don't know if you still information about implanon or not. I currently have it and have had since june and it's now october. I have an appointment to get mine removed. Since i've had this i have had headaches, mood swings, no period, acne, and WEIGHT gain. I personally would not recommend this.

When i had it put in, I started to get period pains from hell, and bled for 7 months continuously.
I now have to take the pill anyway to stop my periods being constant AND after 12 months my arm's started to reject the implant, dispite it being inserted properly.

Seriously wouldnt recomend the implant, to anyone.

Blah- Norplant has really bad connotations...so, just right off the bat...I have a concern with Implanon.

It seems that anything that long-term doses of hormone will have similar side effects (like Seasonale or something), and they tend to be a more severe than say a daily oral dose of hormone:
-irregular periods
-random PMS symptoms
-breakthrough bleeding
-weight gain

ALSO- if you do want to go on this...make sure your doctor can properly remove it. One of the reasons implantation methods haven't worked before (Norplant) is because everyone and their brother was putting into women's arms...but, not many doctor's were educated about how to properly removed it. This resulted in harm to the patient and unnecessary (and serious) infections. I don't want to scare you...but make sure you talk everything over with your doctor before taking the plunge.

Let us know what you decide!

I myself had the implanon and today I HAD IT REMOVED.. I had it for 5months and while I had it I have had very bad headaches, no periods, weight gain, JOINT PAIN, SINUS PROBLEMS and yes that is a side effect of it, mood swings, depression and MUCH MORE THEN I CAN NAME.. I personaly would not recomend this to anyone.. BUT the way I see it NOT EVERYONE IS THE SAME.. Just please do your research a little more before getting it....
