I just felt a lump under my chin 10 mins ago and absolutely freaked out, mainly because I had lunch with a friend at work today and she was telling me a story about when she found a lump in her breast (but it turned out to be blocked milk ducts after she had stopped breast-feeding) and while she was at the hospital she got talking to another patient who mentioned the fact she had never had a breast exam even though cancer runs in her family..ANYWAY, the woman finally had one and it turned out that she had cancer. Woah. So I've had this story on my brain allday and now I've found a lump. Typical. I called my sister in a panic and she said to get it checked out at the doctor's but I have to wait until monday...over the weekend I'll check the size and if it gets painful, but right now it's about the size of a large marble and doesn't hurt at all. Just a little tender. I'm scared....but reading these posts has helped.

So I posted something about my lump about a week and half ago now and it has totally disappeared. I went to see my doctor and when she examined me and said that she thought it would be a lymph node but they move and mine didn't move. Oh-oh. I asked if that meant it was something serious but she said not to panic, wait a week and if it doesn't go-away on it's own get a blood test. So I waited. And it went away. Didn't bother with the blood test. I'm still baffled as to what caused it in the first place?? All I can think of is the day after I felt it I came on my period (too much info I know) and weird stuff happens when mother nature arrives.. Anywho, all is kinda ok. Of course if you feel anything that isn't supposed to be there, get it checked out.

I woke up this morning to a lump that is a little tender under my chin, AND a cold sore AND i was told by my dentist I have a cracked tooth AND slightly depressed due to a break up. Im still gonna have it checked out but wow! It seems pretty much in line with what everyone else is saying (no dizzyness tho)

Most lumps under chin are either lymph nodes arising from dental abscesses/infection or enlarged salivary glands due to blocked salivary ducts. Cancer, as a cause for swellings in this region, would be exceptionally rare. Have a relaxed weekend and see your doctor on Monday. You will be grand!

Swollen glands on left side of neck & a lump found under chi
Thank God for this site - I really do feel a little better, thanks to reading everyone''s anecdotal accounts.
I had a serious viral infection back in February this year and last November and December. To my horror I discovered a huge lump on the left side of neck after I was ill in late Feb, just underneath the ear and jaw. I went to see the Doc and had me on antibiotics for a week. This helped as the lump decreased in size dramatically.
However, a few weeks later (early March) I decided to examine the area and felt that it was still swollen! In fact, most of the left side of my neck is still swollen (though not visibly). About a month ago I too felt a small, marble sized lump under the back of my chin, near side of my neck and totally freaked out! I went to the Doc again and she felt the nodes on the back of my neck and said they felt fine. I wasn''t really convinced and was (still am) very worried about the swelling.
I went to see a Herbalist and am currently taking a herbal drink (very strong stuff). I''m not sure if it''s doing any good yet as it''s only been a five days.
Last night I felt the marble-sized lump under my chin. I could only feel it if I pressed down firmly and found that it moved quite freely. Again and couldn''t sleep at all due to fear. Having done a hell of a lot of research online, I know that there are multiple reasons behind swellings/lumps in the neck and that they do not necessarily denote Cancer, but I''m so very frightened.
Why have the swellings behind my ear and on the left side of my neck not gone down yet? Why is the lump so prominent on the left side of the back of my chin and not on the right?
The left side of my chin and near the nose has started to develop spots, whereas the right side of my face is fairly smooth and spot-free. Additionally, I also sneeze a lot and suffer from a runny (not discoloured!), irritable nose. I''m not sure if this is related also to the swelling/lump? The Doc seems to think I may have an allergy, but I think perhaps more of a sinus problem. I don''t know and it''s driving me insane. I''m only 28 years old and though I seem to be happy in all other respect, these symptoms are frightening me so very much.
Someone help shed some light, please?

ok, so two days ago I was fine. Then yesterday I noticed I had a little round sore area just behind my mandible and before my esophegus. I never had a swollen gland in the center before they have always been on the side. Then today I woke up and its three times as big, and looks a little bit like a double chin, you can see the swelling. My Dr. gave me antibiotics and said only take them if it gets worse over the next couple days or if I get a fever, othewise he told me to just wait and see what happens because it didnt seem alarming to him. I'm sitting with an icepack under my chin and takeing a ton of vitamin C and water. This sucks!

my first entry I just wrote a second ago kind of hasty because I'm searching for answers but here's a little more info.

while at the Dr he did notice that it was moble and that a couple glands on the side of my neck were slightly swollen in addition to the really swollen area right behind my chin. it hurts to extend my neck and look up at the ceiling.

my right side of my neck by the corner of my jaw also hurts. 5 weeks ago I had tonsilitis and was put on levequin until it cleared up. I was feeling fine until now.

I dont have a fever, I've never had a root canal, although I have a filling on my lower left side (#19).

When I say I'm taking a lot of vitamin C I mean a lot. I purchased the powdered form and take 5000mg at a time. which is 5 grams at a time.

if it isnt any better by tomorrow i'm just going to take the zpack my Dr gave me eventhough he said to wait a couple days.

once again, this sucks.

day three I have started the antibiotics because its twice as big as it was yesterday. I hope the antibiotics work. I feel fine otherwise. no fever. no loss of apitite. just hurts and is swollen under the center of my chin to my throat and the glands on the sides of my neck are pretty swollen today as well. I wish I knew what was causing this it makes no sense.

hi everyone
i've had a little lump under my chin for about a month. I haven't been to a doctor yet but I think it is all due to stress. Is there a doctor in the house that can tell us if my theory is valid?

hello everyone..I am a lump sufferer too, ive been reading through every entry hoping to find out whats wrong with me..
3 years ago it started as a tiny lump on my chin right under my lip..after a month it turned out golf ball sized and the whole side of my mouth was swollen..i couldnt even eat or open my mouth..
went to a doctor who sent me to a dentist who sent me to an oral surgeon who sent me to a dermatologist..the derm did a biopsy and said it was discoid lupus..i didnt believe that so i went to a new doc who sent me to an ENT..the ent sent me for an internal biopsy..after that he had damaged the nerves in my face from removing this lump and i can no longer speak right, eat right, smile right..and its very annoying(ent said it was an infected fatty tumor and it was removed)..8 months later i got the lump back but i got a lump that spread acroos my whole chin..you cant really see this lump but it is red where the lump is..it is hard and tender to touch and i feel like ive had 20 botox shots or something in my chin..
now after it came back i went to a new derm or had ANOTHER BIOPSY on the outside of my face from a plastic surgeon..they told me then it was discoid lupus or hydradenitis..i went back to my original derm who said it was discoid lupus and she treats me with steroid injections inside the lump..they still come and go when the feel like it..sometimes the shots help but now the lumps are getting worse every time they decide to come back..i still am unsure of the diagnosis..the derm said it could also be cystic rosacea...
i exercise..drink almost a gallon of water a day and have tried to see if certain foods trigger this lump and still have had no luck..if anyone knows anything please tell me ..thank you

I am sorry i do not know the cause - but can you visit a doctor of tcm (traditional chinese medicine)... They mau use herbs or accupuncture or both, but should be able to tell you the cause, and hopefully have something to treat it.... I trust tcm miles more than i do western chemicals, and for diagnosistic purposes.

Hard lump under my chin
I dont know if anyone is still checking this but, I have a hard lump under my chin as well as swollen lymphnodes in my neck. Its been there for over a year and I kinda forgot about it until recently. I have some other abnormalities, such as night sweats, dark "freckles" on my palms and fatigue. has anyone else experienced these other symptoms and went to the Doctor to find out what it was? I dont have medical insurance.

Mayflower10...you need to get to the doctor and get checked out. I don't want to freak you out, but the combination of those symptoms indicates a serious infection or illness (lumps, night sweats, fatigue...) Please go to the doctor.

Marble-sized lump under my chin
I too am having the same symptoms with the marble-sized lump under my chin. It is very tender to the touch and hurts when I look up or open my mouth. It just appeared out of nowhere about 2 days ago. I've been very stressed lately and noticed some acne under my chin as well. If this doesn't clear up by the end of the week, I'm going to the doc!

Mayflower10 did you ever figure this out?

I also have night sweats and get light headed. I have had the lump for over 4-6 years, since I was 12-ish.. as long as I can remember. It is small marble sized, slightly to the right side, and doesnt hurt but is tender to the touch.. HARD not soft..

I have also developed digestion issues, which makes me wonder about infections as well.. INTERESTING

Have you found out anything new?? I have a gastroenterologyst appointment in 2 days.. but he won't likely know too much... I will post an update

Same Lump.
Hey everyone, I'm fifteen and this morning i felt the same weird little lump under my chin, and it kind of hurts when i press on it. For about a week I've noticed two swollen lymph nodes, one on the back of my neck, and one on the side of my neck, and then this thing pops up. So I'm wondering if it's just another swollen lymph node.. and I also saw someone post something about theirs being associated with acne, and ironically a huge ass volcano just showed up on my chin about 2 days ago, and i can't get it to leave me alone.. what to do?

marble sized ball under chin
I too have a ball sized marble under my chin without any pain I had strep about two weeks ago and am curious maybe this is the reason this ball like things has developed. IT is hard to the touch but not painful in anyway I have a little cold also at the time. Its been here for about a week and I went to the doctors yesterday he said it was probably a swollen lymphnode and has prescribed me anti-biotics to take and in 2 weeks I have a new checkup, I will continue to update you all, this has been a very helpful website so hopefully we can all figure out our weird little common issues.

hey guys,

quick question for you... i have a lump too like most of you that has appeared suddenly... i had a tooth root canal a while back and had no problems since then, but now it seems to have returned today. Question is this.... when i rub the lump it goes dramatically down, and even completely away. but then once slowly grows again, this is making me think it is a blocked saliva gland or something?? any ideas??
