? About Braxton Hicks Contractions

I read in "what to expect when your expecting" that braxton hicks contractions dont start til after the 20th week... When did you start gettin them? Anyone before 20 weeks? What does it feel like?

It feels almost exactly like the baby moving around or balling up. Your stomach gets really tight and then releases after a few seconds. You can really tell if you're having them by putting your hands on each side of your stomach when you have one. You can actually feel your muscles tighten up. It's pretty cool. They're also painless. I've heard of some women having painful ones though.

I think I had one today, but it felt like a little cramp but it also felt like it was tightening up and I was feeling my belly and it felt all hard and it was like a bump, like the way it feels after an orgasm but there wasnt any sex involved so I was wondering if it could have been a braxton hicks contraction, but im only 16 weeks (17 on sat), so I didnt think that was what it was... Is this bad??? Im kinda worried that I might loose the baby.

Yea I thought I was havin them but I called my doc and I was 19 weeks and he was liek "no, their not braxton hicks, u cant have them that soon''.. But I have that same book and it says u can pretty soon after that, ive also heard of people havin em b4.. . Come to find out my uterus was contracting, but that was because of my bladder infection and being dehydrated.. He said theres a difference between your uterus contracting and braxton hicks? Beats me! All I know, is it can contract, I felt it at 19 weeks. Didnt hurt, but was uncomfortable to me, it got tight, and I put my hand on my low stomach and could feel it hardening.* y, r u having them?

It could have been the baby balling up making your stomach feel tight. That happened to me a few times. If does feel the same as a braxton hicks contraction.

I was feelin some cramping type pains and pressure and my doctor told me it was most likely braxton hicks at an early stage. She said its normal as long as they're not frequent right now. I read in my book and online too u can start gettin em at about.. 22 or 23 weeks I think it said. I've only had em twice im sure so I think its safe. Later on tho its normal to get em lots.

I had to call my doctor for that because I was gettin really painful ones and she said that they were braxton hicks contractions and I needed to be on bed rest for a day so I didnt loose the baby because I could have started dialating. It was scary but I still have the baby yay Smile
