I posted on here a few weeks ago, and
finally saw a dentist for my situation
today. Need some opinions....I'm so afraid
to trust dentists/doctors/anyone
anymore!!
First, a brief history......over a year
ago I had a bottom partial fixed. I have
1/2 of a real tooth (a broken tooth), and
that dentist put a fake tooth on the
partial to go overtop of the broken tooth.
That tooth hurt with the partial over it,
but the dentist assured me that it was
okay, I just had to get used to it. About
a week later, my ear started hurting, and
I got REALLY dizzy (ended up in the ER for
a panic attack because I was so afraid of
the dizziness). I have been dizzy ever
since, and have felt pressure in my ear.
After 3 ear specialists plus my reg doc,
and more wrong diagnoses than I can
count.....finally an ear doc said I had
TMJ and told me to go to a dentist. And
just to mention, the partial broke 2 weeks
after I got it, so I haven't even worn it
for over a year.
Okay, today I saw the new dentist. He took
an X-ray (the type that went all around my
jaw & even showed the inner ear etc.
He said the X-ray showed alot of infection
around this broken tooth. He said that
partial caused alot of the
problem.....dentist #1 should never have
put a fake tooth on top of the 1/2 tooth.
He gave me antibiotics, and wants me to
have that tooth taken out. I know it
should be taken out anyway, but I an very
low income and have zero health insurance.
PLUS.....I'm afraid if I DO have TMJ,
having this tooth pulled might make it
WORSE (Sigh!!).
My teeth are not hurting me, my main
problem is the DIZZINESS.....I literally
have turned into an agoraphobic over
this!! Does anyone know if this infected
tooth could be the whole culprit to my
constant dizziness?? The dentist didn't
seem as concerned with TMJ.....he didn't
specify that I had it or not. But I DO
have constant clicking in my jaw.
Any opinions here? Thank you all SO much
in advance.....i would be lost if it
wasn't for the wonderful people on this
board!!

Yes, the infected tooth area could be
causing the dizziness. I can't believe
that first dentist. You really should try
and get your money back from him.
Pull the tooth? Teeth shouldn't be pulled
unless something is going to be put in its
spot. That's because of the bite balance
and possibility of the other teeth
shifting around. He can't just do a root
canal with a crown over it? Talk with the
dentist about your concerns about the bite
and what it might do to your TMJ that you
probably have just a little bit. The bite
balance is extremely important. Good
balance keeps TMJ from happening.
But take all of the antibiotic to the very
end. I know from experience. I hope you
feel better soon.
God bless...

Thank you so much for your reply!! Gosh, I
cannot believe this 1-1/2 years of agony,
walking around dizzy, having panic
attacks, and being afraid to leave the
house were all due to this tooth and the
first dentist's lack of knowledge!! And a
million doctors kept telling me it was all
in my head......along with other
diagnosises....urgh. Yes, I am DEFINATELY
checking into making that dentist pay for
fixing this problem or re-imburse my $$
paid to him, or something.
And I will discuss the options you
mentioned with my dentist. He had
mentioned that I would need a complete new
partial, to keep from stressing my
jaw.....but financially I have to take one
step at a time.
It's 1-1/2 days on the antibiotic, and the
dizziness is GONE.....wow, what a
wonderful feeling!! I will do as you
suggest, taking all the antibiotics as
prescribed. But past experiance has been
that as soon as I am done taking them, a
week or so later the dizziness comes back
no matter what. I've was prescribed them
originally back when this first
started.......kept begging doctors for
antibiotics.....went through 2 or 3 rounds
of antibiotics in the last 1-1/2 years. So
I need to deal with finding a permanent
solution.
Thank you SO much for your help!!
God Bless,
Jo Ann
