We went to Shane's moms for dinner tonight, left Duke (Our dog) inside but he was on his leash tied to the futon because he usually just lays on the futon anyway & we can't trust him to run free through the house while we're gone.. Well we came back to find our futon completely destroyed. I can't take this dog anymore. He gets back at us for leaving for a couple hours by destroying everything in his sight. I just got off the phone with one of Shane's friends who's been saying he'd love to have him, & now when it comes down to it, they don't want him. I don't know what to do. We only have one little thin cushion now for our futon, he's ruining everything we have, everything we worked so hard on in this cabin all summer. Does anyone know how much the pound charges to take in unwanted animals?? I think it's going to come down to that.

have you considered getting him a kennel for when you leave him home alone?

rudy destroyed my mattress, my futon, and he would have gotten another mattress but we had one of those foam pads on top so he just shredded the sheets and tore that thing to bits.

he had major separation issues.

We've looked into them but want to make sure before we get one it's going to be strong enough to hold him & keep him in it. He's extremely strong. We bought him a travel kennel & kept him in it one night last week when we went out for a couple hours & came home to find that ripped to shreds.

They definitely make ones strong, but you would be spending a little more money.

Did you get a plastic one, like a carrier type...or the wire kind? We've used the wire kennel for quite some time now, and it works great for us.

Ok, I guess we're going to go to petsmart or one of those stores & hopefully find something big enough & tough enough to hold him. I'm so mad right now. & what's making me more pissed is the fact that Shane is acting like dogs eating futons is completely normal or something. Our poor little house has just been going downhill since we got Duke.. Ugh ugh ugh ugh. Evil or Very Mad

It was wire & had some mesh to it, I can't really explain it. It's gone now though, he ate that all up. I don't think I'm cut out to be a dog person anymore! Before I had Kaylee, hell yeah but now.. I just don't have enough patience to go around for Kaylee AND a dog!

Aww, that's too bad when our dogs misbehave. Daisy likes to chew, so if we don't keep up with chew things she goes for whatever is in sight.

But I highly recommend the wire kennels. We got ours at farm and fleet, since that was the cheapest place around us. But the plastic kind seems like they'd be easier to chew through. So I don't think he'll be able to ruin a wire kennel. I think they have different sized wire too.

What does your wire one look like? Do you happen to have a pic of it or a website?

How old is Duke? He's still a pup, right? Chavo was a breeze when he was a puppy, I have no idea how I lucked out. Daisy isn't too bad, but she's so small she hasn't done much damage...but now that she's getting her adult teeth, she's been better about chewing. She still tries to get stuff if we don't have anything of hers down for her to get. Is he fixed? Sometimes fixing a dog will alter their behaviors. *sometimes*

Umm.. He's right around 5-6-7 months old right now, I'd have to look on his shot records to see how old he was when we got him & I don't know where they are. & nope he's not fixed. He's just nuts, I wish he would calm down a little & not be in such a hurry to destroy everything in site.

Ah....the puppy stage is a tough one! They seem to be most destructive then. I'm uploading a pic of our kennel right now.

Ok, here it is. Excuse the bareness, their bedding is in the wash. Both dogs share this, I think it's the medium size...but they have a variety of sizes. I think we got this size because it was only a few bucks more than the tiny one

Ahh this is so what we need! Thanks girls! Shane just said they sell them bigger ones for like $40 at Walmart so we're going to do some checking into them. I just hope to god if we get one he won't break that!

Yeah! Wal-mart would be a good choice as well! Pet stores are so over priced!! For my fish supplies I buy online and normally spend enough to get free shipping. It's way cheaper than pet stores. Awhile back we got 2 big filters and a decoration for like $52 and the site was offering free shipping on $50 or more, so we just bought the decoration to bump our $48 order up and got free shipping, instead of paying $8 shipping Very Happy
But in the store, 1 filter was $55 Shocked

And another nice thing about the wire kennels, most of them have a slide out bottom tray so it's easy to clean out and disinfect. Which is nice, because on days we're out for long periods of time Daisy sometimes can't hold it.
