Older Mom (46) Lots of Concerns/questions Posted: 04-08-04 04:49am
New to post.
Found out today I am pregnant with my
current partner who is very excited as he
has no children. He is 46 as well. I
have two sons from my first marriage who
are 15/17. I'm in a dilemma on how to
tell them the news and their reaction.
I love them so much and I feel this might
put a wedge between my relationship with
my sons.
Also I had dental work done last week and
had to take ativan (2) which totally
knocked me out. Then for the entire
week I had to take about 2 500mg tylenol
per day for pain. My concern is how this
may damage the fetus -should I be worried?
Plus I need to get a root canal as the
pain is not going away - is it safe to
take another couple of ativan before the
procedure?
Has anyone on this post had amnio done or
blood tests for birth defects/down's and
how I should be prepared.
Thank you for any help.

Hi catie,
don't worry too much, I think telling your
boys about bubby will be better accepted
than you think. Besides they are 15 and
17, I bet they already have busy lives
themselves. In fact they may even be
really excited about a new addition to the
family. I have a 14 year old daughter
from a previous relationship, and I am now
remarried and 36 weeks pregnant with our
baby. At first my daughter was very
unsure of how she felt about having a
brother or sister, but now she is really
excited. I think you just need to give
them time to get used to the idea. If you
are as close to your sons as it sounds,
then I am sure they will be very happy to
see that you have found happiness in your
life.
As for the dental thing, maybe you need to
speak to your dentist and just let them
know that you are actually pregnant before
you have any dental work done. I need
fillings in my teeth, but they told me
they won't touch my teeth until I have had
bubby. You may be ok as you are in early
stages of pregnancy, but it is really
important to speak to your dentist, as
they know what effects the medication they
are giving you will have on the unborn
baby.
The only tests I had done for downs and
other abnormalities were ultrasounds and
blood tests. Definately nothing
invasive.
Good luck

Thank you for your response.
I have told both my boys now. My
youngest thought it was "cool" and my
oldest I think is maybe like your daughter
- not sure what to think. Like you said
maybe just give him some time. I tried
to reassure them that my love for them ,
nor their freedom with their lives
wouldn't change.
Thank you for your advise.

That's great catie. I'm sure you will all
be really happy. Your boys seem very
understanding. Your lucky to have such a
close loving relationship with your
sons.
