Chest Pains!
Posted: 04-08-04 01:20am

I have been experiencin chets pains for three years!
They start when I am at rest, started off when I lay on my
front, after a few minutes I would get a sharp stabbin like pain
through my chest, then it would be when I was at rest how
ever I lay. I went to the doctors for the first time around 2 years
ago, he said that there wasnt anything irregular and maybe exercise
was the answer. I started to play football once a week and
a training session once a week, but the pains were still there.
I have been to the doctors several times since and had all the
tests and scans yet still they say that nothing is irregular,
apart from a minute irregularity with my liver which could
be causing the pains!
My quest to the doctor then was why would it only occur
when I was at rest laying down!?
I am not worried about it but it is causein me problems with
sleep and once it has woken me up I find it very hard to get back
to sleep, unless I get up and hav a drink and stand for around ten minutes
for the pain to pass! Which it does but within ten mins of being back to
bed, the pain will start again!
It is not every night but praps 5 of 7!
Has anyone got any information other than goin back to the docs!??

Hi gman, are you anxious by nature or under a lot of stress? Anxiety and stress can cause all kinds of symptoms and make them worse so this could be your problem. It is not unusual for us to have a physical symptom and then we fear it so much we keep bringing it back through our worry. When this happens a lot it can turn into panic disorder which is really awful and what developed in me. I am having incredible results with cbt for my panic and depression. You really have to apply the stuff daily to get the benefits but the tea from exercise alone has changed the way I think and feel and I am almost done weaning off my drugs and feel really good now. The two books we are using in my group are really good and I would recommend them both highly: been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz for anxiety and mastery of your anxiety and panic-third edition by michelle craske and david barlow for panic disorder. I hope you find something that works for you Smile

Thany you for your reply,
i am not a worrier, I am laid back and do not let things get on top of me,
dont have a particuly stressful job and I leave that as soon as I walk out the door anyway! Never take work home.
I have a few money problems and have had a few probs with a relationship, but the chest pains started a long time before either
of these!
The only other thing that has been mentioned would be my diet!
Lager!? Dairy products!?

It sounds like indigestion to me.. Try taking tums or something like that.. I get those pains too, and sometimes all they are worse when I exhale. But I take some tums and they go away for a little bit, sometimes..Lol.. Not all the time. Sometimes I have to take tylenol to make them go away. I had an ekg about 5 yrs ago, and everything was fine !! Soooo, sorry im not helping ya much. Laughing

gman-
i'm a big fan of cbt but based on your reply above i'd have to agree with ajames and sammisa that this is more likely indigestion and as good as cbt is I have never heard of it being used for indigestion Laughing
i would try tums and prilosec and see if that helps and get checked out like ajames suggested too. Hope this is helpful!

Gman, after seeing your reply I have to agree with the others assessment. I would go see a gastrologist if I were you.

Daisy your symptons sound like anxiety and panic to me. I agree with the others who mentioned cbt because that is what worked for me when trying meds, therapy, hypnosis and tai-chi all failed to get me over the proverbial hump. It (cbt) can really give you your sanity back! The cbt book by sam obitz that haley mentioned is a good introduction to cbt and the books by Dr. Burns are also very good. Life's too short to let anxiety rule your life.

Just a Thought

I was reading your entry and the symptoms made me think of hiatal hernia. Have you ruled out the possibility of a hernia with your doctor?

It was just a thought that popped in my mind when I was reading your entry.

Chest Pains, Heavy...but Heart Rate Seems Normal
Posted: 01-02-06 20:41pm

I just copied from a post I put on in another section of this site.....

I have been having the same symptoms, but thought it was lightheadness first and was going to pass out. Then had numbness in elbows to hands. Then I feel like its a heart attack because I get so nervous. Have been to er and nothing. They thought it was ear infection. I have anxiety now, just because of these feelings. Please help. Kim

i am on an event monitor now. The monitor will record when I push it, and I am suppose to push it when I have an "episode." my feelings were really light headed at first and just really hard to describe, thought I was then having a heart attack because I think I had a panic or anxiety attack. Then the last one before chrsitmas was pain on the side of my head and numbness in elbows to hands. Then another panic attack - I think, thought I was having a heart attack or stroke after that. The doctor thought they were stressed related anxiety or panic, which could cause migranes which migranes could cause stroke like symptoms. Now, I fell like my chest is heavy. I feel like I have anxiety because I am so worried about these coming, now I worry when i'm out or that I can't go out an enjoy myself. I will be having an mri and mra on wed., and i'm terrified, but I will feel better knowing they can figure something out I hope. If anyone else feels any of these please reply. It's helpful to read these, thanks. Kim

I have been having the same thing as you I get horrible chest pains I have been diag. With so much stuff the doctor thought it was wolff parison white syndrome but I went to a heart doctor and he said that wasnt it so then I started having trouble breatheing and I went to another doctor he said it was asthma so I was on asthma treatment and no signs of improvements and so I was getting peed off so I went back to a great doctor and he said that the chest pains are just muscles spazms and then he said that the ekg for my heart and the echo were perfect I but the two tubes that go to my heart when they shoot off one might be a little delayed he said jogging was something to do he also said I might have a little anxiety so I hope some of this info helped you if you have anymore questions email me at ni ckelbacknb200@yahoo.Com
