Q: Starting to Diet And Excercise How to Get Optimal Results

Ok so I am 5'8" and I weight about 220lbs which is definetly overweight but I also have a decent amount of upper body muscle. I want to loose weight and tone up my stomach and abs area. They are definetly out of shape everywhere else is good for the most part.
Im going to be working on a low carb diet and try to work out every day doign about 15 or 20 min of weights first and then jogging about 2.5 miles everyday on a tread mill.
Any suggestions ?? Am i working too hard too little ? I dont have any particular time frieght for weight loss but just want to know if I am on the right track, is there anything else I can do to help along. For breakfast most of the time I have a protein shake ( like slimfast ) or some egg's with some soy sausge, lunch I mostly have a salad and for dinner I have grilled veggies with another soy type of meat.
Any help would be great!
