Help! My eyes are all red. The eyelids are swollen. My left eyelid is significantly more swollen then the right. My right eye has developed a cysty looking thing right on the lower rim. They are constantly swollen and red 24 hours a day and have been for 10 weeks. I have had blepheritis before which slightly resembles this condition. There was no swelling with the blepheritis. One eye appears a little bigger then the other ( the left) I have been through antihistamines, antibiotic drops gels and tablets, and now steroid drops have failed. I have tried a naturopath and a traditional chinese medicine practitioner. I have tried baby shampoo and continue to do so with warm compresses and eyelid scrubs. No response. The eyelids look like they may almost be scarred from the continued irritation...A striated looking scarring... Running out of ideas and getting very concerned. I have tried a liver cleanse and am currently being tested for allergies... Can you help?

Me again. So my allergy results have come back clear and also the eye swab came back clear. Apparently there is no infection and no allergic reaction. So my swollen eyelids and itchy skin surrounding the eye and the feeling that I have been poked in the eye and the purple eyelids are all undiagnosable and untreatable. Colloidal silver reduced the inflammation to about half two days ago and the redness has also decreased. There has been no change since. Looks like im stuck with big swollen purple irritated eyels for a while.... Does anyone know which specialist I should approach? Dermatoligist or eye??

I just stumbled across your (almost one year old) post but am wondering if you have found any remedy for this awful condition. I am suffering the same symptoms you describe.

Please reply if you are still out there!

Yup
same symptoms here also, I've had this for four years.. i now know what it is from. I have tested positive for celiac disease on the 3rd test. The first two came back false negative, even though I had a stomach biopsy!!! anyway its not totally from celiac disease because when I diet (avoid all wheat and gluten) the swelling DOES go down VERY SLOWLY, but it is also triggered by any form of alcohol, wine, beer, liquor etc.. My intestines are badly damaged and I've become allergic to many foods because of it. I have to go for a colonoscopy to check out my lower intestines. Many people are coming down with this symptom now but doctors are not figuring this out quickly enough. TRUST ME!

Me Too!
I have been having problems with swollen, itchy eyelids in addition to other problems such as irritable bowel, joint pain and a bloated stomach. I've been suffering with all of this for years though it has gotten worse over the last six months. I think I have narrowed it down to a wheat allergy or Celiac Disease. I quit eating gluten and the symptoms went away. I ate it again and the symptoms came back. I'm being tested so I'll know for sure. From what I understand, doctors don't routinely check for it. I hope this helps someone.

Swollen and drooping upper eyelids
Has anyone checked into the possibility of muscular disorders such as MS. Drooping upper lids look like swollen lids and can be both but this could also be migraine headache syndrome or side affects of meds that you are taking. I am trying to figure mine out, too. I take a 1/2 of a 0.5 of Ativan daily for stress an anxiety. Also, my eyelids use to swell when I took advil or aspirin then I found out I have an allergy to aspirin. I do not want to suddenly stop the ativan because it has really helped my headaches. But I may have to.

Yup! Celiac or wheat allergy
I just wanted to chime in. My son's eye just swelled up like crazy. (He has gluten intolerance or a wheat allergy). It's from the soup he ate last night. The cook poured in a little beer. boo!! It's interesting to read that other people have had the same issue. It's such a strange symptom.
