I JUST bought this thing a few weeks ago. Nathan put one little aqua dot in his mouth out of curiosity. I am so sick of this recall thing. I am seriously thinking of banning all MIC toys. Grrr... I was buying a baby toy the other day and saw MIC, so I put it back.

heres a thought, raise the age appropriateness to an age where kids know not to swallow.... I was in the hospital at age 13 and did this activity during recreation. It was fun.

Hey I saw that on the news earlier. I'm glad I decided not to buy it for my niece's birthday.

The girl on the television that had swallowed them in Australia was like 8 years old! She should know better than to eat her toys.

Why is it that everything Made in China is being recalled? I absolutely will NOT buy any toys Made in China. I have decided that this weekend, I'm going through ALL of Kyleigh's toys and am throwing all Made in China away in the dumpster. Hopefully she has something left.

No kidding. I don't even trust to give them away. Why would I put them in the hands of other mothers and their kids if I won't let my kid play with them.? Grrr...

this will probably sound crazy, but i think the recalls are a good thing. it shows that they're really cracking down now, and these big companies like mattel/fisher-price can't afford more recalls which means things should get even safer (or i'd like to think).

i work in a toy store (similar to learning express), we've gone through the whole store and made a list of our products that are not made in china. let me know if you want a list of safe companies and i can get it on saturday.

also, just because it says 'made in china' that doesn't mean it's bad. you know those schleich animals that target sells? those are made in china but the factory is run by german standards, so though they're made in china they're completely safe.

i have a hard time wording things... of course i'm not saying recalls are a good thing. i just think that these huge recalls (thomas trains, fisher-price, etc) are making people look at every toy made in china. personally, i don't think without those big recalls that the smaller stuff would even be examined. who knows what would be sneaking by.

You're cute. I completely understand what you are saying. I do think recalls are a good thing as for keeping our kids safe.

I think they just started really cracking down. What concerns me the most are the really old toys we have or that my husband's mom still keeps for my little ones to play with. What about other older items? It's just too risky.

if you haven't heard about it i'm going to assume it was just an american thing. it was the first huge recall and people were up in arms about it.

then shortly after there was another thomas recall.

i couldn't find the list today, but i'll look again tomorrow.

one company i *love* is HABA, they're in germany. they're a little pricey but if you're looking to stay away from china you have to be willing to pay more anyway.

schleich, as i mentioned before, is made in china but they adhere to german standards.

playmobil (they have a toddler line called playmobil 123) are in denmark (i think).

treeblocks are awesome if you're looking for something for an older kid, like 4-5 and up. www.treeblocks.com - check them out, they're really neat!

i'll try to get that list tomorrow!
