If you are experiencing these symptoms,
please PLEASE contact me! Over the last
several months, I have been experiencing a
bizarre set of symptoms which have gotten
progressively worse. I have recently had
blood work done and an MRI but no
conclusion yet. Here goes. I have been
having these deep, "zapping" sensations in
my upper and lower limbs. They come on
for only a few seconds, and then they go
away. I get them in my upper arms,
forearms, wrists, fingers, ankles, feet,
and upper and lower legs. They only ever
"spark" in one area at a time. And it's
not real pain...the only way to explain it
is like the sensation you get when you hit
your elbow/funny bone. It's not a real
"pain" per say, but rather a nerve shock
or jolt that causes complete paralysis of
your arm for just a few moments. I get
these "twinges" or whatever they are
called maybe a hundred times per day.
Today it's been mostly in my ankles. I
have named them in the last few months
"the weakies" because when I get these
electrical "zaps" I have complete weakness
in that area for a few moments.
Sometimes if I am walking and I get one in
my leg, I will fall down or will lose my
balance. Or when I am typing and I get
one in my forearm, I pretty much lose all
function of my hand. The area of the body
will go completely limp. But it is only
for a few seconds. It's starting to
really scare me, because I do not know
what is wrong. I feel very clumsy at
times, like I cannot grasp things the way
I used to. My doc is currently thinking I
may have MS (one more MRI is needed though
to rule this out)... I have noticed at
times when I am sitting my legs will go
completely numb. There have been times
over the last few months that I have woke
up in the morning and one entire side of
my body is completely numb and I can
hardly move my arm or my leg. This has
only happened a handful of times though.
If anyone out there is experiencing
anything similar to this please please
respond. I feel very alone and some days
I wonder if I am not going MAD because of
this. I can't really find any conditions
that have these symptoms, but if anyone
might even slightly help point me in the
right direction of what this could be...I
would greatly appreciate it. I am not
trying to self-diagnose, but I think it is
helpful to know what might be wrong with
my body. I can share any information with
my doctor and see what she may think,
because she is puzzled as well. Thanks
everyone.

Nerve Shocks Posted: 01-23-08 08:15am
I get this too, but it's never in the
limbs, only in the torso. Here is a copy
of what I have posted in the other
sections of these forums:
I apologize if this is placed in the
incorrect forum.
For the past 4 years I have been getting
random, sharp electrical stabbing shocks.
It feels like I'm being electrocuted. It
happens very quickly and then it's over. A
lot of the time it happens around my
kidney area, but more recently it has been
starting in my left chest, particularly
near my heart. It's a very complex
shocking feeling that starts around my
nipple/heart area and shoots down towards
my abdomen on the left.
I've had 2 cardiograms and a very complex
array of bloodwork tests done. No clues.
One doctor even tried telling me that it's
all in my head and I'm just imagining the
pain! Sometimes at work I'm carrying bins
and I'll just drop one on the ground
because of the pain. It's gone almost
instantly...just like a shock. When it
happens, it'll go away for about a week or
so. I've gotten them all over my torso,
particularly on the left chest, and
sometimes on the kidney/side area, and
once it was the upper right side of my
back. The pain will shoot around in random
complex patterns/directions.
One doctor said it is probably not nerves
because the nerves start in the spine and
wrap around my torso like my ribs do, so
therefore to have a pain shooting from up
to down would involve a random
conincidence of one level of nerves firing
off, then the next level below it at the
exact same spot only, then the next level
below it, etc. So that seems unlikely, and
he said it is most likely a muscular
problem.
I work in a factory that consolidates
automotive parts but does not manufacture
anything. Some amount of forklift natural
gas and propane exhaust, but this pain has
been happening for years before I started
working there.
I stretch very gently almost every day.
I am not a heavy junkfood eater, and eat a
fair amount of raw vegetables
I eat a good amount of meat every day
I am not highly active but from time to
time I get my heart going on an exercise
bike.
I have not smoked in years.
I'd really like some help with this
because it has caused me a huge amount of
long term stress over the past few years
because I don't know what it is.
Thanks

nerve shocks Posted: 02-12-08 23:43pm
i am freaking out! over the past few
weeks i have been getting these sharp
electric jolts in the back of my right
knee. the shock travels up and down my
body for a few minutes after setting off
tiny little shocks, i went to the dr.
today who referred me to a neurologist.
he seemed to think it was really common
and nothing to worry about. he said it
would probably go away. this can not be
common. i feel like i'm getting
electrocuted. any one else have this??
help!!!!
I totally am going through what you are.
I have had 2 EMGs done (painful!) with no
results other than mild carpal tunnel.
those shocks are amazing. they are like
electricity jolts. although gone quickly,
they hurt. i have hashimotos disease,
which is basically an inactive thyroid
from an autoimmune disease that attacks
your own thyroid til it dies. once you
have an autoimmune disease, you are
susceptible to more my doctor told me.
when i exercise, it takes days to recover,
my muscles hurt so much. when i take a
flight of stairs, the weakness in my legs
is amazing, and i find myself out of
breath. i have increasingly had trouble
feeling fully "oxygenated". i never feel
like i am breathing fully. i am going to
the doctor tomorrow and seeing if i have
myasthenia gravis. i suggest you look
into it. i don't know if autoimmune
diseases run in your family(there are
many-look them up), and if your muscle
weakness is similar to mine. i also don't
know about those nerve prickle things and
MG, but i do know that MG affects the
nerve endings! Look it up, and see where
you stand. i don't even know if i have
it, but even my face get s prickly,
tingly, and itchy sometimes. i am
baffled, too.

Do any of you have mercury fillings ? I
was getting these shooting pains among
other symptoms and ended up getting my
mercury fillings out on the advice of my
md. and then took chlorella to pull the
mercury out of my system. the shooting
pains got worse when I chelated, but then
stopped and they are all gone.
