Q: Cataract Question Re: Glasses Correction

Hi all,

my mom went to her eye doc and she said that she has a cataract. She's got a surgery scheduled for thursday, which she's nervous about. I think anything involving your eye is just extra-scary, even though the surgery itself has such great success rates.

One thing though that nobody has been able to explain to her satisfaction is why the eye with the cataract has better vision without her glasses than with her glasses. How can this be true? How can the cataract make her glasses appear to make her vision worse? Her doctor had some explanation for it (which I don't recall), but for whatever reason she wasn't satisfied with it. Can anyone here help?

Thanks,
kate

Kate

the problem you describe is generally caused by a mis-match between
the current state of her natural lens and the script for her glasses.

Her glasses will currnently be magnifying the light distortion caused by the cataract and making her corrected vision worse.

Cataract/glasses
I am thinking that this may be what they call second sight. The eye with the cataract gets to a point that vision seems somewhat better for a while. Type vision second sight into your web browser and you may come up with an explanation.
