Q: Night Sweats & Hot Flashes- I'm Going Crazy

It's been 4 months since my complete hyst. I thought that I could handle the night sweats and hot flashes. Actually, I did for a while but now it's driving me insane. I can't sleep at night. I wake up in the morning just drinched with sweat. I refuse to go to the beauty shop when all I do every night is sweat. Would anyone recommend prescription hormone therapy or over-the-counter hormone therapy. Ladies, please i'm in need of some kind of relief. I'm going to see the doc today so we'll see what he tries to put me on. I would like to try some herbal hormone therapy or something in that nature. Anyone with any suggestions please let me know. Thank you

Hot Flashes
Hi - I had a complete hysterectomy about 3 years ago. Like you, I wanted to do it alone without prescription drugs. I gave it my best shot and ate tofu; took black kohosh (sp?) and other vitamins known to help with flashes. I did it about 6 months and could not take it anymore. I was getting no sleep and was exhausted all the time so I made appt. With my doc and asked for hrt. I am on the climara patch and feel like a new person! If you give it your best and cannot sleep, then I believe hrt might be for you - talk it over with your doctor. Good luck! I know how you feel.

Hot Flashes & Night Sweats - Going Crazy
Hey niap

thank you for the information. I went to see my doc yesterday and he put me on gynodiol 1mg for a monrh. We'll see how that goes and if it doesn't go well then I may try this progesterone cream called perfect balance npc. How os the climara patch working for you. Can you give me a little insight about it? Hell, i'm willing to try anything so that I can sleep and not be so miserable. Thanks a million Smile

Re Night Sweats & Hot Flashes- I'm Going Crazy
Hi - I had a complete hysterectomy about 2 years ago. Like you, and another women who replied, I wanted to do it alone without hrt.

I am by no means an herbal/vitamin nut so I went and learned about what works and why etc. I found out that with regard to herbal supplements the quality of the product and the dose are key to making it work. (i also found out many are medically recommend and some of the stuff is just hooey).

With that said I was ready to try a black cohosh supplement that was around a long time called remifemin. When I went to buy it I was told by the herablist in the store that it is a quality product but she has seen more women have success with a brand called oona. So after talking to her more I followed her advice and after about 5 weeks of taking it I slept like a baby and had no more hot flashes. I was blown away with the results. Look, I do not want to sound like a commercial but I was shocked and felt that I had to tell others that were going through this hell. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Tintures a good also, but a pain to deal with.

How Are the Flashes Blackstallion?
I hope the hormone medication your doc gave you is working. The climara patch I use is .075 mg. It says that much seeps in through your skin per day - mystery to me how that happens but hey - I don't question those smarter than i! I seem to remember that when I first went on the patch that it helped with the flashes within a week and I was in heaven after not having slept for months. When the big scare came out about a year or so ago about hormone meds causing breast cancer, I was concerned like everybody else but did not run right to my gyn.. I waited for my regular yearly and she seemed to think that I was perfectly fine with the patch. Of course, I have mammogram each year. Anyway - I would be interested to hear how your med is working- I know it does get better. Smile
