I had an oraquick test done yesterday and a very very faint second line showed up. The tester decided to take an orasure sample and send that off to a lab to confirm the results. I have genital herpes and finished up my initial outbreak the first week of September. I had a slight fever, headache, muscle aches, etc... during that initial outbreak, but they check out with initial herpes symptoms. I had an oraquick HIV test done the second week of October and the result was negative. I was just coming off of my second herpes outbreak when I had the oraquick test done yesterday.

My questions are:
1. Could this be a false positive?
2. Can your immune system fighting off a herpes outbreak interfere with an oraquick test?
3. Can HIV antibodies form even though I have had not been sick or had any symptoms in 8 weeks?

When was your last suspected exposure to HIV infection?
Oraquick test is a reactive test and as is true of all HIV screening tests, a reactive test result needs to be confirmed by an additional, more specific test.
Asymptomatic HIV infection is a period of varying length in which there is slow deterioration of the immune system without clinical symptoms.
Asymptomatic HIV infection is, by definition, characterized by the absence of symptoms associated with HIV, such as fevers, weight loss, oral thrush, or any opportunistic infections.
