Q: Rare Joint Issue, Probably Need Surgery. Questions!!!

ok, i have idiopathic condylosis (sp?) where the "ball" part of the joint has disintigrated and has become mishapen. according to a bone scan, the bone seems to have stabilized, but as of now, i have a crooked jaw. my oral surgeon told me that in the future, i'm going to need surgery, because the crookedness could damage my jaw joint over time. but i had NO pain or popping, so i sort of put it off.

now, three years later, i have sudden TMJ pain (though i think i may have just pulled a muscle in my jaw, but i'm certainly worried) and chronic tinnitus.

So i'm waiting for an appointment. i know i'm going to get some sort of surgery, he already told me this. i know there is a 50% chance i will get a whole new jaw implant

First i was all for it. Now, i read some scary side-effects about these implants, like restricted jaw movement. i'm wondering if anybody has had this surgery, and what kind of jaw problems did you have remaining? i already have another chronic pain disorder, (probably unrelated) and i cant take any more "disability" if you call it that. i'm only 25!

Well Ive not had that particular surgery. however you cant let some side effect scare you off. I had surgery and i have pt exercises that i do and you will have to do too. this will help with the restriction but you have to keep it up---there is a post here that i put together of jaw exercises.

yes i think this can be labled as a disability if you cant eat its disabling. you hang in there and keep us updated. pm or email me at any time
