Q: Hypoglycemia Treatable Condition?

I have been reading through this forum and alot of the people that are listing their personal experiences with the condition seem to have only became hypoglycemic within a year or a few years of time it has shown up. I have been dealing with this sugar problem since I was probably 10-12 years old. I cant remember exactly what age, I just remember the first time I passed out was the first time I ever had any sugar problems and from then on I had them all the time. For me, eating every few hours is normal with snacks inbetween. I am usually ok as long as I eat here and there. I can tell when my body needs food, in alot of cases, my stomach doesnt feel hungry, but my body tells me I need food...which usually when this happens, I will be completely out of it, pay no attention to anything, forget about concentration, its like I am temporarily a robot until I get fueled. I have only passed out maybe 6 times in the past 10 years. Is this a good sign? Since I am a girl, I have noticed that the week before my period, along with all the other pms side effects, my hypoglycemia is at its worst! Any other females notice this? Usually my body will give me hints that I need to eat something soon...but durring the week of pms (pre-menstrual) My sugar levels will just WHAAAM hit me upside the head and like I NEED TO EAT NOW...or else I will pass out. Usually when I have a sugar attack/problem that hits me, I munch on some peanut m&m's...its like a quick fix drug for hypoglycemics....or at least for me. I have never been tested but I'm assuming that is my problem. After reading these forums, I am afraid of what might happen in the future. I didn't realize this was a condition that can be fixed? Is this true? And if it is not fixed, it can turn into diabetes?? I have been dealing with this for 12 years, and its normal to me, I just eat alot and stay skinny at the same time lol...my friends all think its facinating and think I'm nuts! haha. But I don't know how serious my case is. I have always thought it was normal. I havnt passed out in probably 4-5 years. Although I have had a few close calls... Should I be worried about this condition? Or just keep eating like normal, every so many hours and snack all the time...I am a fairly healthy eating person, I try to stay fit and work out and not eat too many crappy foods...But I am worried...is this fixable? will it effect me long term? things such as memory, etc...is it fixable??? or should I just keep dealing with it as normal...

HI! Nice to meet you! I just joined this forum too. I too had my symptoms show up when I was around 10. So to me it is normal too and same as you I am really thin as well and eat all the time and nobody could understand it. It is so hard to gain weight. I have been tested but have not had a gtt which I think shows exactly when you should eat..what times. The doctor just caught my low blood sugar while testing me for something else when I was about 18 or 19 but told me to just carry sugar around with me so that didn't help things at all. hhaha and I knew that that was a screwed up approach to fixing a problem so I just disregarded it.

But am just just now looking into it and there are ways to fix it. I myself have it under control when I'm not pregnant as long as I eat almost exactly 2 hours apart.. but can not go over 2 hours. and it is vital in the morning times to be extreamly strict about that. Of course you can only eat certain things as well I am sure you know. I am going to be recieving some pills formulated for hypoglycemics in a couple days here from the health food store. I will post it up on this forum when I see what it is. It was ordered for me so I'm not sure the name.

Anyway you can feel great and have lots of energy and all that stuff. It is pretty much completely up to what you eat and when you eat it! Once you find that balance..your awesome.

Read 'Stans final version' diet. He has a lot of great info in that post!

I'v never met anyone who has had it as long as me.

Before I get my period I usually feel more sensitive too but not a big difference and if I eat right up until and during, then it goes well, no problems.
What other problems do you still have and at what times?
What do you eat for breakfast mid morning and lunch time?

I'm surprised you've made it this far without having really severe problems, but be warned that they WILL happen if you don't fix it. And yes, you're correct, it will eventually turn into diabetes.
