Okay, it's my turn to vent. I'm getting really frustrated with my job. I used to LOVE going to work, I'd look forward to going in & I'd go in early, & I'd go in on my days off and work for people. There for a while I was getting 30 hours a week. People would ask me to work for them on my days off and I ALWAYS said yes, I even offered to stay late a few nights a week because I knew they needed my help. I worked 9 days in a row once, got 1 day off and worked another 7 days in a row, I work really really hard there.

Well, lately I feel like they've really been screwing some of us over. At the end of Summer vacation, my friend Sarah (she's been there for about 8 months) wrote a note and stuck it in the mailbox infront of the managers office telling her that she couldn't work past 9 pm on school nights, but the managers kept scheduling her until ten. I know an hour isn't a big deal, but she's got like 7 honors classes, which means a lot of homework, and she doesn't have to explain herself in the first place, SHE SAID SHE COULDN'T WORK PAST 9 SO DONT PUT HER ON PAST 9! Well they kept doing it, so she called the manager and said "I wrote a note and put it in your mailbox that I couldn't work past 9 on school nights blah blah blah"

Well, it turns out that they must want revenge or something, because they pulled her OFF of the floor (we both worked in jewelry and apparel) and put her back on checkouts (which is like a demotion to us on the floor, pretty much) and now she's only working like 2 days a week.

They keep hiring new people all the time, my friend kaycee has been working there for about a month and only works ONE day a week. They've pulled people who have been there for only a few months and putting them on the floor and are lowering OUR hours. I'm sorry but that is NOT right. I'm in a marketing class, and to be able to get a credit, I have to get at least 20 hours a week. They're giving me 15. My manager signed a paper saying that she'd give me at least 20 hours a week because of my class, and now she's cutting me off!!! I'm sorry but it's making me so mad, they're frustrating me.

It mainly makes me mad because they've pulled 2 people off of checkouts, put one in jew. and one in electronics and they work like every day like I used to & now here I am in a marketing class NEEDING hours, and I'm not getting them, when I've been there for a lot longer.

Sorry, I'm just really mad lol

Aw I'm sorry! That's what stinks about retail. You're really never guarentee any hours. Esp with the holiday season now, places are hiring like crazy and it seems like everyone's hours get cut.

Wish I had a solution for you. Hopefully it'll get better w/ the hours.

Umm... I'd be really mad too. That's not right. Especially since your manager made a commitment to you to give you 20 hours a week. You have every right to be mad, and if I were you I'd consider mentioning to your boss that you need 20 hours a week to be able to get credit for the marketing class that you're taking.

Maybe... just maybe... it was all some really dumb mistake.

That isn't fair Terra, want me to come talk to them for you?!

The worst part I think is signing that you would be getting 20 hours a week and her putting you down to 15. Maybe explain to your teacher that it's not your fault?

I agree!

& sure Tanya haha I'll pm you the number Wink

seriously though, I'm going to talk to the manager. I'm just nervous, I've never had to confront anyone about anything real before, but I need to learn and start doing things for myself, I'm a big girl now haha

I've always hated K-Mart lol. They are pulling the same crap at my work. I work as a cashier at a casino, and to keep my insurance i have to have 35 hours a week. Well they are working me 34 lol. Not to mention that it took me 2 months even with a doctors note to get my hours cut from 44 to 34, or one day. I asked them about that extra hour for my insurance and they said they would see what they could do. They are just pissed cause they have to pay for my insurance while i'm off on maternity leave. I would really talk to you boss again. And seems to me that if she signed something than they should have to keep your hours.

they did that all the time at penney's. you had to have 35 hours to be full time. they never gave me more than 33.5 a week (i tried to go full time when summer hit). then they cut me down to like 12 a week. ugh! i was so happy when i quit!

They won't say it, but seems kinda fishy to me. I'm going to check into different jobs while i'm on leave. I've been here for over 2 1/2 years, and all i do is get crapped on.

I've worked retail for 7 yrs... they would avoid over 40 hours like the plague... I havent worked there since May (did a 6 week internship at a wildlife park)...when I came back they hired 2 ppl to replace me... now they fired one and called me to work...but I'm to busy right now...but will go back for the weekend after Thanksgiving...and after I'm done with school for the holidays.....chaching...commission time...

I am going through the same thing. I started off at over 40 a week and they cut about 11 hours off. Full time here is 32 hours I believe but I need the money and insurance right now.

How about we all start a huge business together =) and come up with our own schedules & our own pay, ect. haha & we'd all get to be together at least once in awhile! gz that'd be cool.
