We finally understand each other...we are each a god with limitless potential.

I could potentially groove with that. The concept of a (non-sentient) universal spirit that is in everything and has been since before life began (imagine waves on an ocean - the waves look separate but are still part of the ocean) and a (non-sentient) ethical force that also binds ALL living things together (including other animals, not just humans) is a pretty neat concept. I should make a religion about it.

There is no God involved in either concept however, and it is possible that the ethical force and the universal soul (universal soul-energy) are actually the same thing, so like... a universal ethical soul energy or something. I say energy because everything is energy according to the laws of physics. Matter is energy, just moving very slowly. We ARE the same exact thing as light, but our individual atoms are moving much more slowly than light, obviously. It's all energy.

If there were no God, nothing would change for me. I do not require a higher being to dictate kindness to me. It is easier to disbelieve, for me, because I have a very hard time with the concepts of vengeance wrath, and condemnation. I try to avoid these activities in my life, as I find them most uncomplimentary. So even though I do not beleive in a man with a flowing white beard sitting atop a cloud, I do believe that there is somthing which tells us what is right or wrong. I believe that through your positive and negative actions in life, you are directed positive and negative energy. Did you ever notice how really negative people seem to attract really negative people toward them, and the opposite for positive people?

Religion was created to put people in line, and to give people false hope. I personally believe in a strange mix between dualism and nihilism. I believe the physical body and our consciousness are not one. I also see this life as pretty much meaningless. Of course that isn't such a negative though, it comes with a great sense of freedom.

If we embrace the universal ethical soul energy the next thing you know we'll all be hippies in a Volkswagen van braiding flowers into each other's filthy dreadlocks. Laughing

It's an interesting idea, but I have too much of a headache to think about it right now. So I'm going to watch The Muppet Show. Very Happy

I like this idea better than bombing foreign countries and victimizing young altar boys!

Ok.. so if 'god' is the orginator of morality.. how do you explain tribal behaviors and cooperation long before god was invented? Neolithic, mesolithic, a paleolithic hominids down through humans?
People, in our current form, have been around for 100,000 years.. 'god' dates back only about 4,000 years. that is a pretty sizable discrepancy.
Yet tribal peoples were well organized and had laws before 'god' existed..
Hammurabi wasn't a xtian and he had a whole set of codes written down (he sort of predated 'god' too!)
So historically it is not possible for 'god' to have orginated morality.

Oh my flippin god!
That is so strange!
I didn't write blessed if you do, blessed if you don't.
I wrote damned if you do, damned if you don't.
What the hell happened?
Did I freaking sleep walk or something?
While I was writing that I could have sworn I was writing the word damned, not blessed. All I remember was writing the word damned.
I chose to write damned if you do, damned if you don't, and then believed that I was writing it, even believed that I saw what I had written, the word damned.
what?
Perhaps I should just stay on the schizophrenic portion of the forum.

Uh oh.

Yes Rodge.. "God" was invented. Do you find a single pre-abrahamic shred of pottery or writing about 'god'? No. This myth is one of many. It only came around in the last 4,000 years. It didn't exist before. There is zero pre-copper age artifacts pertaining to 'god' in the abrahamic sense.
God has no history.

...That's not what I said. If you ask Guest, he will say that God was not invented, because he is a Christian. Christians believe that God has always been around, because he made us.

Also, woops: There are filters. The filters are utterly, screamingly retarded. You'll get used to them.

And it just happened again.
What in the hell is going on right now.

I wrote damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I stressfully hope that I didn't just write blessed again and was not in control of it.

The site runs automatic filters. sometimes you have to cheat to get around them. Like spelling homicide which the filter translates into "not a nice act"
