Extreme sciatica back pain - suggestions or recommendations? Posted: 11-03-07 00:32am
I've back pain since last 15 years. Before
this year it was at some lower stage . But
now it's at its extreme.
My MRI report as on 8th Oct, 2007 is as
follows
Imagince Protocol:
Spin echo T1W axial and saqittal images
fast spin echo T2W axial and spatial
images were obtained. Complementry MR
myelogram was also done.
Findings
· Early disk dessicatory changes
at L5-S1 with normal disk height seen
· Small left paracentral disk
bulge at L5-S1; causing mild lateral
recess narrowing and mild left nerve root
compression at this level.
· Faet hypertorphic changes are
noted at L3 to S1 with mild bilateral
nerve rots compression at these levels.
· There is normal high signal
from rest of the intervertebral disk with
normal height of the IV disks noted.
· Normal extra forminal region.
· Normal signal from the
vertebral bodies noted with no evidence of
vertebral collapse or paravertebral
abnormality seen.
· Normal termination of the
spinal cord with normal thecal sac
contents.
Conclusion
· Facet hypertrophic changes at
L3 to S1; leading to mild neural foraminal
narrowing at L4-L5-S1 with mild neural
compressions. Small left paracentral disk
bulge at L5-S1 also seen.
· No significant disk
protrusion/herniation seen.
I am really very worried for this pain and
I’m not a technical person that knows
the details of MRI report.
I am residing in Pakistan and doctors here
say that it’s treatments is surgery but
its only at ‘do or die’ stage. Because
it is not successful in our country.
Now no pain killer affects me whatever
doctors give to me.
If anyone have solution to my pain kindly
tell me or any suggestion he/she could
make to me. I shall be very grateful to
you.
Thanking you all alot

why don't you go to acupuncture(chinese)
if you can find any and also, massage
therapy to release the tension or compress
tissues.

Injection Option Posted: 11-10-07 17:59pm
Hello Akhlaque,
Welcome to this forum!!
I would suggest a different option than
that suggested by Bscorpion, with due
respect to Bscorpion.
May I suggest that you talk with your
doctors and ask them if they would
recommend/give you an epidural injection
which would contain an anti-inflammatory.
I had my first epidural the end of April
and it greatly helped me. (My back is
about as bad as yours.) Last week I had a
2nd epiudural injection in a slightly
different place to reduce some apparent
inflammation in the lower part of my back.
I am 71 and my spine surgeon feels I need
to have surgery within the next few
months. For me at least, I want to keep
that knife away as long as possible. With
the injections working, I'm going to stay
with that option. Yes, not a cure, but
surgery is no guarantee either.
Take care. Let me know what your doctors
say regarding an injection.
