Gout In Finger-does It Last Longer Than In a Toe Posted: 11-02-07 04:43am
I have had gout in a toe several times
over many years and it only ever lasted a
few days. Allopurinol stopped it but
recently I came off the drug because of
the sde effects. I have now had a painful
inflamed first finger for several months
which my doctor thinks might be gout. Is
it normal for finger gout to last such a
long time

yes, i have too in the last finger of
right hand.
it went off slowly in 3 weeks but the pain
still remains.
folding movement of the finger from center
is restricted.
It was spreaded to center finger too after
2/3 days when it began.
may be some tofie like accumulated.
i am playing shuttles daily. had to
suspend play during severe pains.
but now though little difficulty in grip,
i am comfortable., no drugs.

alanknight,
Don't want to sound boastful I've had gout
in many different joints. I would say by
far the joint with me that it lingers the
longest is the fingers. Where elbows,
knees, feet, ankles, toes etc are all
painful (not saying fingers are anymore
painful) the gout seems to run its course
and leaves.
My most painful finger has been the right
ring, followed by the little finger and
middle finger (this one really affects my
communication with crazy drivers here in
Virginia Beach). I hope you are seeing a
Rheumatologist if not please do. There
are other drugs on the market besides
alopurinol (this one works fine for me)
for treatment of gout. Good luck..
Very Respectfully,
Jeff

Well, Jeff. I know Va Beach is noted for
many fine things, but I didn't know gout
in the fingers was one of them. I too am
in VB and for the first time have had gout
in one of my fingers. It did last longer
than it did in the foot. Since I am a
northern transplant I would agree that the
drivers here are crazy, but I am not one
to communicate with the particular finger
in which I had gout. :>
