Q: Microgestin Fe 1/20 - skip placebo pills?

I'm starting on Microgestin Fe 1/20 this sunday. I've heard some horror stories about it and I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with it. I have a history of depression so I'm kind of concerned about that. Also, my doctor told me to skip the placebo pills in order to eliminate my period? Has anyone ever heard of/done this?

On the skipping periods part yes. Many people do that with different bc. The depression part I don't know if anyone can tell you because everyone can react differently to any kind of bc. But good luck and hope all goes well Wink

I was on it for a while and had no complaints. You'll find horror stories for everything, though, so don't let it freak you out. As long as you monitor your depression and make sure you're talking to your doc about it, you should be ok. If you start to feel it worsen, just give your doc a call.

You can skip periods on any type of combination pill just by not taking the placebo week. It might not work the first time you do it, but your body will get used to it.

Thanks! By "not taking the placebo week" do you mean to not take any pills that week or start a new pack that week?

start a new pack that week. Since the placebo pills have no medicine in them, taking them is the same as not taking anything. (Hence, you don't actually have to take them, except yours have iron in them to offset the iron loss when you get your period. It's not actually necessary to take them at all.)

BC annd Seasonale
I was on Seasonale - i have had a history of bad pms -to skip my cycle and only have a period 6-8 times a year as opposed to the usual 12-14 times. After having a horrific episode of passing bloody tissue not during my cycle while on the pill, I later found out that my uterin wall was not getting enough blood due to the decreased amount of blood to the area that happens with any birth control. So the tissue was dying and sloughing off, like when you're skin peels after tanning. I was horrified though at this nonchalant explanation, not to mention how painful my cycle was becoming throughout the month, not just during menstruation. And as I continued to pass tissue while I changed birth control some episodes were light but others, like the first, were like a miscarriage. Hence skipping periods is not for every body.
I also found out from one gynecologist that my seems were especially common with seasonale.

microgestin fe 1-20
I am currently taking microgestin fe 1-20, and completed my first cycle already not missing any pills, but this next cycle since the first pack i have missed two consecutive days of taking the pill. Today I am bleeding and experiencing painful cramps. what's going on, and what should i do for my discomfort? by missing the pills does my body think i should start my period?
