Darkening of Skin Around Shoulder Area? Posted: 04-05-04 11:31am
What is with this patch of dark skin I
have around my shoulder area i've had
since around 13-14 years old. It starts
from the bottom of my shoulder blade and
extends out to my bicep.
There probably isn't anything that can get
rid of it, but my buddy says its common
and he knows people that have the same
thing I do and they got it around the same
age I did. I just want to know what it
is. I also notice that there is slightly
more hair in that area than usual. Its
not noticable hairy until I look very
closely.
I am a male if that helps. And does
anyone else have the same thing I do? It
only occurs around the upper back and
shoulder area.

May I suggest you check out "the south
beach diet" by Dr. Arthur agatston? He
is the cardiologist who developed this
approach to eating as a way to help his
patients. I just completed reading the
book, and there was a reference to the
type of symptoms you are describing.
There is a name for the condition (which
he gave in the book). I don't know if it
matches up with what you are experiencing,
but it sounds very much like it. I
apologize, but I don't have the book with
me right now as I loaned it to a friend,
so can't tell you what page I read it on.
But it caught my attention as I read the
book, because I have noticed other people
with the same type of skin condition and
always wondered what caused it. Hope
