Ten to twenty percent of all women have inverted nipples.
But, if you're experiencing this for the first time and is only one-sided, you should be worry.
An inverted nipple can be a symptom of Breast Sheet Cancer ( Inflammatory Breast Cancer ).
Do you have redness, swelling, and warmth in the breast?
Does the skin of the breast appears pink, reddish purple, or bruised?
Is the skin like the skin of an orange?
Do you feel heaviness, burning, aching, increase in breast size, tenderness?
Can you check for swollen lymph nodes under your armpit or above the collarbone?
Inflammatory Breast Cancer is hard to detect in a mammogram.
Please, see your doctor right away and for biopsy!
Take care!

sherry go!
Sorry for a very delayed reply!
How are you?

The answer of your question is yes, because if the inverted nipple is due to Inflammatory breast cancer, mammogram and ultrasound can be negative (won't diagnose the cancer), but, the cancer will be still present.
That's why biopsy is main diagnostic tool.

Hope to hear from you!
Well wishes!

Inflammatory on Non Inflammatory Breast Cancer
Can you explain the difference in these two: Inflammatory on Non Inflammatory Breast Cancer. When I raise my left arm over my head or lie on my back, my left nipple draws inward from top to bottom. I was scheduled for a mammogram in August but called my doctor and went in 2 weeks ago. Mammogram showed nothing that they would be concerned about. He said it could be from scar tissue from a biopsy that I had about 12 years ago, but it just started doing this. If Inflammatory BC can't be seen on the mammogram, I am a bit concerned. I have to go see my doctor in 3 months if there is no change, but not sure if I want to wait that long now. Thanks for you help.
