Q: Lower Back Pain When Jogging.

I am 26 years old and athletic. About a year ago I started getting sever lower back pains only on the left side of my back while jogging. I never used to get this when jogging before.

I have been told to focus on core excersises, especially for my hips and abs, and to focus on not landing on my heels and to land under my hips and center of mass rather than in front of the body.

Do you have any other advice as to how to get rid of the pain in my lower left back?

didn't the core exercises and gait retraining work, try some cross training like swimming and give yourself a break from jogging now and then

Hi there,

I know this may sound obvious, but have you tried changing your running shoes? I reputable running shop will help you select the ones best for your build and the type of running you do. And surprisingly it's often not the most expensive ones that are best suited for most of us. I'm not an expert on this kind of thing so I apologise if I've said something that you've already thought of!

I don't do any long distance running myself and when I do run its at a slow pace because I'm scared of damaging myself after my surgery, but I know small muscle spasms in my lower back cause me pain sometimes when I run. Maybe some massage therapy may help too?
