Q: Does E-coli In Semen require Treament with Antibiotics ?

A microbiologic analysis of my semen revealed that I have E-coli bacteria. The doctor prescribed antibiotics, Ampicillin 500 mg and Gentamicin shots for 1 week treatment. My girlfriend was also tested positive for this bacteria in her vaginal secretion analysis, but her doctor told her that this bacteria is absolutely harmless and she needs no trearment at all.
I think that it would be useless if I take all of the prescribed drugs and clear the bacteria off and my girlfiend doesn't, because when we have sex, I am going to catch the bacteria again.
My doctor told me that my immune system supresses the bacteria and that's why I do not have any symptoms now, but that is not guaranteed in the future. For this reason he believes that immediate treatment with anitiotics is highly recommended.
I would highly appreciate your opinion on this issue. Is this bacteria really harmful, so that it really needs treatment with antibiotics? Is there any danger that it could cause any infection in the future?

If her doctor told her it was okay, then it is okay. The reason it is different for women is E-Coli can naturally get into the vagina (the anus and vagina are very close in proximity). You need to take all of the medication as your doctor prescribed so you won't get sick. E-Coli is serious shiznit. If it clears up after you are done with the meds, there should be no worry that it will come back. But I think your girlfriend should get treated as well, or you will catch it again-just as you said.
Maybe she should go to a different doctor? Maybe she can go to your doctor with you and you 3 can explain the situation. I would ban sex for a little while until this all clears up. Going to the doctors repeatedly is expensive.
That's my 2 cents anyway.

That's exactly what I am telling her, but she is quite convinced that she doesn't need treatment. I don't think that sex is a problem, if we use a condom. Can you give me a link on the internet, where I could find information about E-coli and the possible complications, so that I can convince her to get treated as well.

The Gentamicin shots are quite painful. I had the first one today. I hope that its really worth it.

Obviously it's worth it if the doctor thinks it's the right thing to do....

Try getting a RHOGAM shot in the arse just to be able to keep your baby safe.... Burnssssss
