Q: Bump On Throat Caused By Severe Cough?

I had a severe cough in August that I thought at the time was due to allergies (I have severe allergies), because the cough was the only symptom I was having. One of the nights I did have a sore throat, but for about 10 days all I had was a cough. Sometimes, wet, sometimes dry.

One particular day I had a horrible coughing fit. I was coughing so hard that I was gagging continuously and straining to catch my breath. The coughing was so hard that I broke a blood vessel in my eye and my eyes were watering. I was exhausted after the attack, but a couple days later the cough was gone.

I then noticed a small bump that is just left of esophagus but very high on the esophagus under my chin sort of. But it feels very connected to my esophagus. I cannot tell if it is movable or not because my skin is moving but cannot tell if the bump moves as well. It is not painful, but at times I feel like something is poking into my esophagus from behind.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what this could be. I suspect that since I had no symptoms that were similar to these prior to the coughing episode, it may be some kind of injury.

Is it possible to get a hernia in your throat from coughing? I am just worried that is some sort of cancer, but don't want to jump to conclusions so quickly. I just feel that since the symptoms were presenting theirself strictly after the coughing episode, then they would be a result of the strain.

If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. I cannot get in to see the doctor quite yet, but I would like to be able to feel at ease so I can sleep at night.

Thanks!

The only way you're going to get a good answer since we can't see you is to see a doctor.
