Q: Crunchy Momma Transformation

i am becoming a crunchy momma! I use cloth diapers and just bought a sewing machine today and will start making my own Very Happy . I am so sick of getting plastic bags and grocery stores so I will be making my own bags to use over and over again!! I am all for recycled stuff and will now only buy organic, including beef and turkey. What the heck has happened to me??I am going to make a bag using a pair of old jeans. I have all these ideas and I am not really that creative. I joined a cloth diaper (crunchy mommas) group about two months ago and the process of becoming crunchy has been quicker than I thought.

I am even thinking of purchasing cloth mama pads...but then again, I think that may be going to the extreme for me. I would rather buy that plastic moon cup.

Yeah, I think I will. The thought of having to clean them is just too much!!

When I actually sew my first thing, I will take pics. My husband doesn't believe that I will actually make anything. What faith, huh? The people who sold me the sewing machine actually gives you free classes to make sure you really know how to use it. So excited!

Let's just hope I actually follow through.

Musikmaker!! Please PM me with your sister's blog!! Perhaps we can exchange ideas. (oh you just did, thanks!!)

The whole cloth diapering thing sounds gross but it's really not that bad. There are such cool diapers! It's amazing how into "what goes on your child's butt" you can get!!

I had no idea what crunchy meant. I thought it was a new snack I'd never heard of. Neutral

How neat! I hope it works out well for you! Alyvia's waste scares me sometimes, so BLESS YOU for being brave enough to rough it with cloth! Very Happy

I am wondering if it's a northwest saying. The word crunchy is fairly popular in Washington State and seems to have migrated to Idaho.

I am really not THAT brave. You don't need to do much with breastmilk poo. I will use flushable liners when he gets older. There is also a handy dandy little diaper plunger thing you can use to wash out the diapers in the toilet if the poo is really bad.

Doesn't crunchy = granola = hippie? That's my understanding of it. Haha.

haha. I make my own purses from clothes. I buy cool pants (mostly little girls pants) at yard sales and make little purses out of them. (If you buy women's jeans, then the purse is a little too big) I always get the embellished pants with lots of pockets and buttons and stuff. Then I buy cool belts at a thrift shop and use it for a handle. Some lady gave me a huge box of silk lining at a yardsale for free too.

Use the top of the jeans and cut just below the zipper and sew the bottom shut. The zipper makes a cool pocket. I save the back pockets for a cell phone holder. Smile And then I use old buttons or cool charms from necklaces & bracelets to embellish. And I always finish it off with a cool belt through the belt loops.

The moon cup is a great idea. I don't like pads at all. Especially not ones I have to clean! Smile

Cloth diapering is actually a lot easier than people think. As far as recycling and composting and buying less waste, good for you. If everyone lessened their footprint in the world, it would be a much nicer place to live.

I'm glad you are finding the transition easy. These are all such simple things to do, I'm amazed more people don't do it to make our children's lives better.

I'll see if I can figure out how to use my camera and get some pix on here. I just got it, so I'm a little clueless.
