Q: Do Pap Tests Change Your Period Cycle?

Hey all,
I was wondering if Pap tests change your period cycle at all? The reason I'm wondering is cause I was supposed to start my period 5 days ago and have just been getting occasional spotting but really really really bad cramps. I never got cramps really before until now. They were so bad I felt soooo sick. I had a pap test Oct 10 and am wondering (and HOPING) that might have screwed up my cycle? Just because I was actually taking the pills wrong (not taking my last few since my period had started) and really hope I'm not pregnant! I havn't taken a pregnacy test either yet cause I'm too scared to! Please let me know if the pap test could have caused this irregular cycle?
Thanks!

Pap tests don't change your cycle.

It could be that since you got wacky on your birth control, it could have changed your cycle a little....

You need to take a pregnancy test if you are worried about pregnancy. What's scarier? Buying a test and taking it, or going through a pregnancy/childbirth???

Darn, well I thought it was worth a shot! Ya, I don't know why I just don't take the test - my boyfriend really wants me to take it too but I refuse cause I just rather not know... but I'm killing myself just waiting!

I've read about implantation bleeding and how you can still get some spotting even though you're pregnant. Could I be getting this? the spotting occurs like every 2 days with a little bleeding but major cramps. Any help?

When did you have unprotected sex?
It goes along with when you ovulated, when you conceived....
I'm not sure based on the information given.

I really couldn't tell you the exact date! Is ovulation 2 weeks before your period? And how long does it last? This is the only time you can get pregnant right?
We didn't use a condom and havn't ever cause I've been on bc but only found out recently I was taking it "wrong" this WHOLE time (thanks to this wonderful forum!) by stopping my active pills just because I had my period ~4 days before I was done the active pills.
It's been fine before when I didn't know I was taking the pills wrong - so I hope just this time there's another reason for my spotting!
I am definitely going to use condoms now too - if I find out I'm not pregnant. If I am I really don't know what I'm going to do!!

If you find out that you are pregnant, there are lots of things you can do! There's a lot of great people on here to give you advice too!

I can't say if it's implantation bleeding or not because I'm not sure about the dates and neither are you. Your best bet would be to go grab a pregnancy test... I would wait a little while so it won't be a waste of money....
Try the test in about a week or so. Use your first morning urine.
Keep me informed! I'll try to help as much as I can if you are. I had my baby unexpectedly and had a lot of help too. I know about Medicaid and what not... all those "fun" things about being an unexpected mother Wink

Oh, and no one can tell you exactly when you ovulate. Because if you don't have a regular period or your cycle is more or less than 28 days, it is hard to tell. With a woman who's cycle is 28 days regularly, she would have ovulated 14 days prior to her period. But like I said, I wouldn't be able to tell you.

Thank you so much for the help Smile I'm in a steady relationship, but not married and I'm still in university. Having a baby right now would not be so good - especially telling my mom. But I guess to have sex there are the consequences! (stupid consequences!!) I'm going to wait a week and see. I'll let you know how the test comes out. Thanks again.

Unfortunately, pap smears do not affect your cycle.

The "last few"... were they active pills or placebo pills? If they were active pills then yes, that's bad and you're at risk. If they were just placebo pills then it doesn't matter.

Please don't be scared to take a pregnancy test. I know how frightening facing all of that can be because I've gone through it myself!

I don't think severe cramping is a sign of pregnancy, just so you know! It's normally a sign of a regular cycle or a miscarriage.

Go take a test. Everything will be okay, but you need to take a test since your period is late. There are many people here to help you as Marianne said Smile We can get you resources for any decision you make.

I remember this one- she was skipping the last few active pills because she thought she was supposed to stop when she got her period. Smile

Implantation bleeding is pretty darn rare, so it's not a reliable symptom of pregnancy. Really, you just need to take a test. Make your bf come with if you need to, let us know how it goes.

Yep that's right - I skipped the last few active pills. Which I will never do again! I'm going to wait the rest of the week before I take the pregnancy test because this is the week of my "inactive pills". I'm on Orth Tricyclen 21 so I really don't have inactive pills! So if nothing happens by Saturday I'm going to take the test.. and my bf has definitely been great through this whole thing, and you guys have been too! Thanks for all the support and I'll let you know what happens!

Thanks again for the support - and when I do get pregnant (when I actually want to!) I know the spot to ask my questions!
