Q: Ovarian cyst or UTI? Sharp pain in ovaries during sex
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 29th, 2007
I have been having really sharp pains where I believe to be my ovaries. It has been hurting for the last few weeks. i had my mirena coil removed on 10//10/07 to TTC. I get a dull ache and sharp shooting pains. It comes and goes but hurts more during or after sex.

I thought it may be a UTI but my doctor doesn't seem to think so. I'm not pregnant cause my tests are all negative and I have a monogamous relationship with my partner.

I was googling and it sounds like a may have a ovarian cyst. I would just like a second opinion please

Sexual Health - Women Answer A3412
Pain which is present during and after sex might originate from the inner genital organs. An ultrasound scan (abdominal and vaginal) can reveal more information about the possible cause for this type of pain. Infection of any inner genital organ can cause painful sex. Women that wear IUDs are more susceptible for developing genital infections than women without IUD.
You can ask for second opinion from a gynecologist.

An ovarian cyst is usually not painful but it can become painful when the condition is complicated by an infection, bleeding, perforation, necrosis, etc. Ovarian cysts causes irregular menstrual cycles if hormonally active.
