When can I have sex ( TTC ) after a misscarriage ?

I have very recently had a misscarriage and would like to know when it will be safe for me to try and get pregnant again. I will be 40 next year and am worried that I am getting too old and want to try again as soon as possible.

After a miscarriage, the uterus’s inner layer (endometrium) is damaged and needs some time to expel all the residual endometrium and for the new endometrium to regenerate. Having sex while the endometrial layer is still regenerating increases the risk for infection. A woman's recovery time after a miscarriage depends upon the age of the previous pregnancy. You can typically resume sexual intercourse as soon as vaginal discharge or bleeding stops (about 2 weeks after a miscarriage).
