Do you believe it's wrong to celebrate and/or dress up for Halloween? Why or why not?

Absolutely not wrong! Halloween is at this point in America no longer associated with any religion; it is a purely commercial holiday. I see nothing wrong with dressing up in fun costumes and going out for candy. Parents should of course carefully check all candy before it is consumed.

If someone is weird (and yes, it is weird imo!) and thinks Halloween is devil-worshiping, praising the devil, summoning demons or WHATEVER else, then just stay inside, turn on choir music, close the blinds, and keep your porch light off. A turned-on porch light is a pretty universal sign on Halloween that you're up for giving out candy. Decorations help too Smile

You get to run around in the middle of the night wearing a silly costume and asking random people for sweets! When you're a kid, it's an awesome holiday.

I remember one time me and a friend went trick-or-treating near my grandad's house, and we went to this old lady's house. I was dressed up as a witch, and jokingly said I was gonna put a spell on her. She found out where I lived and complained to my grandparents. Rolling Eyes

Halloween is one of the few holidays that doesn't have a huge monetary value put on it at this point. If you don't have money you can throw on a pair of your father's work pants and an old shirt and go as a hobo. I love to see all the kids costumes and how cute they are.

I agree with Eiri, if you don't like halloween keep your outside light off.

haha we hide in our porch that my mom decorates. We never scare the little ones but the older kids usually end up getting chased off our yard by my dad wearing a mask -- after getting actual candy bars or very large handfuls of candy so kids always come back the next year or even again on the same night. Very Happy

Well, if people didn't go missing, I'd be fine with it.

People go missing every night of the year. Are you against those nights too?

There was a user that came here a year or so back who swore up and down that Halloween was evil, and that you're basically condemning your children to Hell if you allowed them to dress up and go out for candy.

Do you believe there is something magical about October 31st that allows you to be more easily possessed? Are spirits/demons/sprites/werewolves able to cross over more easily on that night?

Heavens no XD I don't believe in magic or spirits period, so obviously I don't believe that people can be "possessed".

I don't believe in anything mythical or mystical.

No, I'm not against every night.
All nights are good and fun and enjoyable, I love life.
How could you hate a big fun party, it's fun, it's great, and there isn't anything wrong with any day or night, it's all good.

And yeah, halloween is great, nothing wrong with it at all!
Have a good halloween everyone.

Woo hoo! fun fun fun

I don't like Halloween, but not because of any religious/moral reasons and I don't believe it's wrong to dress up and celebrate it, I'm just not bothered by it. It's really not a big deal in england, and sometimes it's more of an inconvenience, having to sit inside with the lights out because we have no sweeties lol. It's more of a kids thing.

That said, I was out in town last night and loads of people were dressed up in Halloween stuff, so I guess adults can have fun with it as well.

I can't remember the exact reason Halloween started, but I do remmeber reading that people dressed up to trick the evil spirits or keep the evil spirits away. I cna't remmeber now, but I do remember that it was the exact opposite of what that user thought.

I was Marilyn Monroe this year at a party. Smile I was HOT!!

I think Halloween is the only "real" holiday we have left. Meaning, it's the only holiday that's really about getting together as a community and having some no-pressure fun. You don't have to worry about presents or a big meal or anything, just dress up like a freak and go out and see your neighbors. Give kids some candy. Everyone's happy.

All the other holidays are so stressful and have all sorts of weird religious connotations.

Who is it who has the Wiccan beliefs? sillyakchick?
I think there are some ties with Halloween as one of the Wiccan holidays Celtic ties, too.

Halloween is great. I think it should be one of those National Days Off of Everything like Easter and Christmas, too. Very Happy

A friend of mine told me about a party he went to where this guy dressed as Chris Hansen (of "To Catch a Predator" fame) and pulled off this elaborate stunt complete with rushing around camera crews and boom operators. Laughing
