Q: Working Out Everyday - routines + weight training advice

Can working out everyday doing the same weight training hurt you? Because im trying to lose weight. Im 6' 225 lbs. Can i also get some suggestions on work out routines?

as long as your not overdoing it
dont try and do too much at once
start out small and then progress with it

Excessive weight lifting can hurt you. I usually do it every other day. The belief that your muscle tears won't heal if you lift day after day might be a myth, but your joints will get tired from excessive lifting. Also, if you're 6 foot tall,225 lbs isn't really overweight, its just a little on the heavy side. Lastly, if you're trying to lose weight, try adding cardio (jump roping, running, swimming, biking, hiking) to your weight lifting program since weight lifting by itself won't make you lose weight that effectively, it could even make you bulkier.

So you're trying to replace fat w/ muscle. Cardio can still help with giving you a lean, shredded physique; which is almost impossible w/ just lifting from my experience and even harder if you're someone who is naturally more soft-muscle toned instead of muscular and lean. Also, from what you are saying, you are trying to improve your fat-to-muscle composition, one of the best ways to improve body composition and keep it lean is to do cardio work. And besides, fitness isn't just about muscle strength. Its also about muscle endurance, flexibility, body composition, and cardio endurance. Not only is a well-rounded fitness profile necessary for many tasks in life, it is also better for your health, many notable bodybuilders like Mike Mentzer (died from heart attack) and Arnold Schwarzeneger (bypass surgery I think) have had health issues from just lifting and doing nothing else. I guess u shouldn't do too much cardio, but something like twice a week cardio couldn't hurt.

MMAFighter has got it right.

Always keep your cardio training, you can do it before after or during weights and all week long if you want. If you are going to lift weights, I'd suggest doing it 3 days a week. Keep the weekends for rest where you don't do anything. Always have rest. When you lift weights and work out you make little tears in your muscles. When they heal they get stronger. You need to give your muscles time to heal. Otherwise you'll be going backwards. Smile

Make sure you don't focus on just certain muscles, you'll cause injury. And rememeber to stretch!
