Hey guys...I ask this for information
purposes only as I am the brother of a man
who is really having a rough time . My
brother was in a horrible car crash back
in 2000 . His left leg was badly damaged .
His leg was saved but only after 6
surgeries and eventual disability . He has
suffered with this injury for a long time
. Most of the time he is confined to a
wheel chair and during the winter months
his pain is almost unbearable . He is
basically addicted to pain killers and
often self medicates using marijuana . His
life is in disarray and his marriage is on
the rocks. He has talked so many times
about how he wished the doctors would have
simply amputated his injured leg . His
surgeon even used a Stainless steel rod in
one of his operations but later had to
remove it . I know as fact my brother
would be so much better off with this leg
gone . He would be able to live
again....and with a prosthetic could even
work again . I know he would at least be
walking . During this time he also had a
heart attack...doctors believing his
immobility and lack of exercise with poor
diet brought that into play . He was a
very active person before his accident .
hunting and fishing were his pastimes .
Now he just sits around , mostly stoned on
painkillers . I believe he should pursue
voluntary amputation of his bad leg .
Would his current situation be a valid
reason for this ? What steps should he
take to get the ball rolling if he decides
to continue the process ?
Thanks.....Matt

I'm sorry that happened to your brother.
I'm not doctor, I really don't know what
to recommend. I think there is a "ask a
doctor" feature on ehealth. Maybe you
should use that?
