Q: Pack Rat Here!! Help!

Help!! I need advice. When do you stop keeping clothes. I have kept most of Nathan's clothes (except for 3 to 9 month, which I gave away). I don't want to give away everything because of my 3 month old. Nathan is four year old now and I have so many bags of clothing, my goodness. When do you stop keeping clothes?? We aren't the richest people in the world but I feel so cluttered. There are toys that I should get rid of but I am thinking my lil one "may" use them. What to do????

I "may" have another child but I think I am going to just get rid of most of the clothes my 3 month old has outgrown and exchange (i.e., in your box of clothes).

I have a pack rat problem. Even with my own clothes! I still have some papers from the 6th grade that I can't throw away due to "memories." I keep every card someone gives me - almost every card. I have them filed, so they are a little organized. I actually recycled some of my old college papers. I still have many interesting articles that are very hard to throw away and could be beneficial for my job. Will I ever look at them again, probably not.

i am the same way, i finally got rid of baby clothes and gave them away to friends but then im like man i shoulda kept em in case we have another kid down the road. i do have some stuff left but not much. I am such a packrat i keep all kinds of stuff. i go ta box in my basement of cords that go to things, im not sure what they go to but since i dont know i wont throw them out cuz i MIGHT need them ya know lol. But at least i finally let go of my baby clothes! I think once the lil one grows out of nathans stuff then u should give some of it away, maybe just keep anything unisex and give away all the boy stuff ya know. my sister did that with hers, gave me all the unisex stuff when i was pregnant with joseph since i didnt know what i was having.

Those darn box of cords! We have a few of those in the garage. I tried to throw them away but my husband, being a semi-pack rat, won't let me.

I think I will just keep the unisex clothing. Good idea. Oh, it's just so hard to do because of the "what ifs."

yeah, try and zone those out, haha before jason wanted me to keep all the baby stuff but i saw no point cuz i already gave away all josephs old things, but like alot of mine well in his bunch was given to me anyways, alot of jordynnes we bought though but still, my friends enjoyed it and got good use out of all the clothes, we just sorta pass em around to eachother. I kept handing on to mine for a while then i finally let go of em , then i keep saying the what ifs but theyre gone! so i cant like go and ask for them back just cuz i want them in case lol.

I was a huge pack rat with Kaylee's stuff until we moved into the cabin. I didn't want all the closets cluttered with bags & boxes of baby clothes anymore. I gave our infant carseat & base, & all of the clothes I had (Except for some of my favorite outfits that I refuse to give up) to a girl I went to high school with. She is 7 months pregnant & doesn't have a lot of money or really anything for the baby. It made me feel really good because of how happy it made her so that kind of got me out of my pack rat stage Smile

When you get sick enough of clutter you'll give it away! I'm definitely a pack rat. I was the same size from age 12 up until right before I got pregnant. No need to tell you how many clothes I had. Laughing But recently I started to get sick of all the clutter and I just bagged up all the clothes and gave them to the goodwill. Plus I have a whole attic full of furniture from all the times people gave me things or I bought something new. When I move I'm going to load it all up on the truck and drop it all off at the goodwill too.

Ha ha!! I still have a pair of shorts that I wore during my 12th grade year. That was 16 years ago. I can't get rid of them now. I want to see if they will last until I am 70!! I still wear them around the house...they are stretchy; pretty ugly but they still fit. I am going through my clothes right now trying SO very hard to get rid of stuff. I can't get past the "I may wear this again" stage. Crap!

I used to keep all the kids clothes then I gave them all away. I constantly have to go through all the clothes and throw out anything that's too small.

I have a thing with getting rid of things, too.

I have cards and things that I made for my mom when I was in preschool, I plan on scrapbooking them and giving them to her when I graduate Smile

What a great idea!! I should do something like that!

I am so glad to here some of you are the same way about cards and things!

Macysmama (I briefly forgot your name, sorry), common sense is to get rid of the stuff with stains but I actually haven't done that. I also have several articles of clothing that were given to me that I think are so ugly but I still haven't had the heart to sell them or give them away. I will do that this weekend. I have to. I don't want to turn into that lady who still has stuff in her garage from years ago.

Kay, I am so sick of the clutter so I think I am right about there. Yesterday I threw a bunch of clothes in a bag to get rid of. Some of the clothes are so cute but I haven't worn them for at least three years. Yet some of the ugly, yet comfortable clothing I just can't let go of as easily. I would probably be one of those fashion disasters on TLC. Those people would go through my closet and probably get rid of everything.
