I have had a couple of UTIs in my life so
I know what they're like: burning
sensation, frequency of urination yet
little to nothing comes out, etc. It's
painful and hard to miss.
Well, now I have very intermittent
symptoms. Occasionally I will have those
symptoms and think, Oh no! Another UTI!
but then it goes away for quite some time
(weeks). When I actually had a UTI, the
symptoms were constant and worsened. This
is very intermittent and the degree
fluctuates greatly.
Recently, it's been happening about every
other day. Sometimes it's just for an hour
or so, and then gone again.
What is going on? Is this normal for a UTI
or something completely different? I am
sexually active. At first I thought the
symptoms were linked to when I would have
sex, but now there is no link there at
all. It's random. I have a dr's appt with
a gyno on Tuesday to get everything
checked out. Do I bring up all these
problems to her? Or should I be referred
on to a urologist?
Also, I noticed, that when I feel the
symptoms coming on, if I drink a lot of
water, it tends to aid the recovery, but I
drink an excess amount of water every day
anyway, so it's hard to keep up.
Thoughts?

Bring them up with her - of course! Don't
hide anything from your doctors.
I don't know if you should be referred to
a Urologist. Talk to your doctor and see
if s/he thinks you should be.
Do you treat these UTIs with antibiotics ?

The UTIs I have had in the past, yes, I
treated them with anitbiotics and then
went away. The symptoms I have now are the
same as the ones when I had a UTI EXCEPT
that it is very intermittent and random
and not consistent and worsening. I'm
taking intermittent over a length of
almost a year now and can happen from
month to month or week to week but lately
it's been daily for an hour or two.
I just don't want to bombard my gyno with
questions and concerns! But I suppose I
should. She can always
refer me on if she needs to.

That is your doctor's job You are supposed to
talk to them about your health.
