Q: I'm Bulimic - why are Liver Counts in the 400s?

Last night I was taken to the ER after getting very sick and after some blood work they found that hugely my liver counts were VERY off. In fact they were in the 400s... i'm a 20 year old female with an eating disorder and mono... but i've never drank a single sip of alcohol in my life... ever. At first he just threw the "you're just bulimic and the abdominal pain if from tearing a hole in your stomach from purging so much". But when he took the blood work he seemed worried, especially because on monday my counts were in the normal range.... Does anyone know why they would be so high in such a short period of time? My symptoms are nausea, abdominal pain, headaches, fatigue, vommiting ( not on purpose), weakness... but no jaundice... I did have an ultrasound this morning... so hopefully that will tell us more.

Regardless I deserve to know what's going on.

The ultrasound came back... saying the walls of my gallbladder were thickened... I read somewhere this can mean cirrhosis of the liver? Anyone know Is that true?

I never heard that, i was told that the walls on ym gallbladder were thicker then normal but i never had an liver problems , i had gallstones, i had my gallbladder removed in april of this year though, ive never heard of it causing liver problems but then again you never know, you could try googling it though. But gallbladder problems can cause abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting . But those other symptoms seem eating disorder related to me.

Well i got a gall bladder scan done and my gall bladder isn't functioning at all... I read something on line that contributes this to eating disorders in total. So I have to get it removed. At the age of 20...? I'm such a jerk...

Hey guys, hepatitis A (also called the salad bar sickness from restaurant workers not washing hands before handling salad) will also elevate liver enzymes. So will gall bladder troubles. When a person has a gall bladder attack or hepatitis A, the symptoms are just what you describe, nausea an vomiting, pain. Another thing that elevates some liver enzymes is breakdown of muscle tissue for food when a person is starving. Keep us posted on what you find out. Are you feeling better yet?
