I suggest seeing a different doctor- have your gp refer you to a psychologist who can treat you!

Oh good. What kind of doctor?

There are good treatments for panic attacks. I'd look around for a psychologist/psychiatrist who specializes in or has experience treating anxiety or panic.

Ask your gp to refer you to someone better suited to treat them.

Yeah, they are scary!! But they can be treated. Let us know how it goes for you.

That's a great start! I hope it works out well for you. I'd suggest seeing a psychologist as well, you can treat the panic attacks with therapy and not need medicine.

panic attacks
Panic attacks are due to an underlying evolutionary response which is being trigger out of context. The "fight or flight" response occurs in response to danger, flooding your body with adrenaline. With panic attacks. this response is trigger without any obvious sign of danger.

I have never had anxiety attacks, just live with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) which is 24/7. A lot of people I know have had success with anxiety medications. I am on Xanax which is a temporary solution, but can become very addictive. My brother takes Buspar 30 mg daily and Wellbutrin for depression, which has helped him a great deal. He explained it to me as an out of body experience and was taken to the ER. He suffered with anxiety attacks and depression until he was prescribed these medications 8 years ago. He is a very successful business man, a lot of stress in his life, but this has helped him a great deal. He continues to live a very stable lifestyle and continues with his career with much success! You can beat this! Hang in there and if one medication doesn't help, there are many others! Good Luck!
