Q: When Did Your Babies Start Sleeping Through the Night?

Hi all,

I haven't posted in a while. I had my baby girl, Kaylee, in June and she'll be 4 months old on the 29th. Well, she still isn't sleeping through the night yet... she's a very good sleeper, but she still wakes up to eat once or twice during the night. I'm not complaining by any means, I just wanted to know how old your babies were when they started sleeping through the night. Just from reading other people's experiences, it seems like 4 months is a little old to not be sleeping through the night. She wakes up to eat, and then goes right back to sleep. I'm wondering if she's allergic to both milk AND soy. We switched her from milk-based formula when she was 6 weeks old because of an intollerance. I've heard that about 30% of the time, they're allergic to both. I also heard that waking up to eat at night is sign that they're possibly allergic. I just wanted to get some opinions. Thanks!

~Emily

Well I can't show you the light at the end of the tunnel because Brayden is 8 1/2 months old and still doesn't sleep through the night... good luck.

Ava started sleeping through the night when I let her cry a little bit. She cried for 12 minutes and has been sleeping through ever since. I suggest you read The Sleepeasy Solution. The key points are consistent bedtime routine, consistent early bedtime, and consistent check ins while the baby's crying. She didn't cry nearly as much as I thought. It was been terrific. She goes down awake and sleeps all night. You can do it as early as 4 months. Read the book first though. It's easy to read and WELL worth it!

Awesome, thank you so much!!! So it worked for you the very first night? Was she waking up before that to eat? I'm just curious because I don't want to *starve* her if she really is hungry...

doing their nights is not what we all think.....a baby does his nights when he sleeps 4 or more.....and i agree jessesgirl about consistancy ...and my son did his full 8 hour at 8 months.

Brian started sleeping through the night at around 3 weeks. He is 3 1/2 months now. He does wake up around 5:00 am for a feeding. I feel lucky. Nathan, my 4 year old, didn't sleep through the night until around 10 months. I breastfeed Brian. I stopped breastfeeding Nathan around 10 weeks. For him, formula didn't make a difference.

Read the book, it talks about night weaning as long as they weigh more than a certain amount you wean them gradually until you're not feeding them anymore. she was getting up to eat out of habit.

Consistency is just so very important!! That is something I need to work on. It does take work but it's just so worth it.

bree sleeps anywhere between 8-12 hours every night ( at 3 months). She started out 6-7 hours at 8 weeks. We do bedtime routine and I time her last bottle right before bed. We do bath, bottle, bed and then we rock. I put her down between 7-9 and she wakes up usually around 7.
But she also already weighs 14 lbs (she is super long 26 inches)
When she cries I will go in and try to sooth her without picking her up ( and i put the binky back in her mouth)
Seems to of worked out great for us, but I think most of it is that I am super lucky

My boy is only 2 months but he wakes up every 3 hours every night. I am trying everything to get him longer but my dr says it is because he is so small. I am really hoping that after he starts picking up some weight that he will get better about sleeping. I have noticed that the earlier I put him down the better he sleeps.

Have you tried the bedtime lotions and stuff? I am thinking about getting those.

Well, I went and bought the book yesterday! I started reading it and it really makes a lot of sense. Kaylee had her 4 month check up today and is only 12 pounds 5 ounces, so I'm probably going to wait until she's 5 or 6 months old to start it (the book says to wait until they're at least 14 lbs)... Hopefully by then she'll already be sleeping through the night. But if not, I'll definitely use the sleep easy solution! Wink
